1978 Fiat Other Additional Info:
Up for auction is my 1978 Fiat X 1/9 Bertone. The car is in very good condition with 82500 miles. It has removable targa top that stores in front storage. The car has been very reliable since I have had it. I have taken several longer trips in it with no break downs.
The car is almost rust free with only a small area of bubbling in the paint at back side of hood. (See Photos) Paint is in good condition with some small scratches here and there. Looks to have been repainted red from original brown color. Was done very well with all door jams and gaps painted. You can see from pics, it shines up very nice. Tires have plaenty of tread left.
The engine starts and runs great. There are no oil or coolant leaks. Engine does not burn oil and no smoke. Oil stays pretty clean between changes. On longer trips, with constant high revs, I have had to add some water to cooling system. Not sure if just air in the system or something else. There is no leaks and no white smoke. Doesn't lose water during normal everyday driving. Like all X 1/9s, with the carburetor mounted over the exhaust, on hotter days it is a little hard to start when engine is hot, but has always started.
The seats were recovered before I took ownership. The material is in good condition with one small tear on passenger seat that is really invisible. I have recently installed a custom made Italian leather cover on the dash. Was ordered from England and is of very good quality.
Only a small number of things that might need attention; muffler connector has some pitting and has to be sealed with exhaust putty; rubber boots on steering rack need to be replaced;
Recent work done; new air filter; clutch slave cylinder and hose; speedometer cable; replaced gear oil in transmission; new inner CV boots; replaced brake pads front and rear; replaced wheel bearing in rear; replaced rear main seal on engine; front strut inserts (shocks); as well as other items mentioned above.
The car is almost 40 years old so is not perfect, but is a very solid, fun, and reliable car. I have had great fun with it. It grabs a lot of attention where ever I go.
