1968 Fiat Other Additional Info:
This is rare series one covered headlamp Spider that has been sitting in a barn for many years. I have had it in my barn for 4 years, and the previous owner tucked it away 10+ years before that. It is very complete overall, but the original engine was removed when initially stored. The original engine, (843 cc), is long gone, and is the reason the car came off the road all those years ago. However, it will come to you with a 903cclong blockthat you should assume needs a full rebuild. I pulled that from a later parts car, (engine not pictured), but it's a complete core motor for you to start with. I believe this car is 99% complete, as in I'm not aware of anything significant that is missing. Some overall details;
The body- not a rust free car, but it's very restorable and worth the effort as the Series one cars are so rare, As you can see, some rust in the sill area on both sides, but the floors are good. Some rust in the battery box, (like all of them!), but easily repaired. Some idiot, (me), closed the front hood before lubricating the latch. Now its stuck closed. I know it has some rust in the trunk floor, but its not major and very repairable. The headlamp buckets and inner front fenders are rust free. The front bumpers are in the trunk also.
Trim and chrome- Overall, quite good in this area, and correct for the year. The early door trim pattern is present, along with the low back bucket seats. Instruments are correct for the year and dash is great condition with no damage. The the original floor covering, which is rubber, is also in great condition. Glass is good and the window winders work. Top frame is good, but as you would expect it will need a new top and other rubber seals. The covered headlamp units are undamaged, early correct front turn signals and rear lamps are complete and included, along with the rear bumper.
Mechanical- Hard to say what it will need, besides an engine rebuild, but it's complete. Suspension, brakes, transaxle are all in place. If you look closely at the pictures of parts boxes you will see the air cleaner, starter, generator, and many other major parts. Electrical wiring is all in place and undamaged. I'm still assembling additional minor parts that will go with the car, I have had many 850's over the years. My intention is to deliver you as complete a car as I can gather, I want this rare car to have the best chance of survival. You will get more than what is pictured!
Other Considerations- The winner of this auction will be given theopportunityto purchase any of my considerable NOS parts inventory at a large discount. I have been collecting and trading in 850 parts for 15+ years, and I have more than I could reasonably use in a lifetime. If this opportunity interests you, I will email you an excel file that lists all my parts by the original Fiat part number.
Shipping- This isa no reserve auction and my selling price includes free delivery within 100 miles of zip code 37034, Chapel Hill, TN. If you would like a quote for a longer distance delivery,ryive you a very reasonable quote, which will need to be paid in cash upon arrival. This Fiat will be sold on a bill of sale.
