1982 Ferrari Mondial 8 Coupe
Regretfully selling my1982 Ferrari Mondial 8 coupe. One of just 147 US-spec Mondial 8's and in excellent condition. Prior to my ownership, the car spent 6 years on display in a car museum. It appears to have been restored shortly before that time. I had the car looked over by a seasoned Ferrari mechanic and he was impressed with how well it has been preserved (especially since so many Mondial 8's have rotten away or have been used for parts). The car had a belt service and fluids changed in April of this year. It also received a new battery. The car runs and drives great, and the transmission shifts very smoothly. The original Cromodora wheels (including spare) are in excellent condition, and the TRX tires look nearly new.
The paint appears to be a 2-stage respray of the original color (Giallo Modena). The paint and body have some very small imperfections that can be seen upon close inspection. There are a couple non-stock details like window tint and black painted wheel centers that could be undone if it doesn't suit the next owner. At some point an antenna was installed on the trunk lid and the base plate is still there.
Nearly all of the electrics work, including all of the hood/trunk/engine/fuel solenoid releases. The driver's side window is very slow to close. There is a newer CD player that appears to be functional. The pop-up headlight motors work great, as do the electric side mirrors, horn, wipers, and hazards/signals. The car can drain the battery if anything is left on, so there is a battery cut-off switch installed. The HVAC blows air, but the AC is not cold. I did see multiple references to A/C repair in the service history - including a new compressor. The car's fuse panel was updated to the newer style in 1999.
The engine bay looks immaculate, and the underbody looks clean (see photos from recent service). The interior is very clean, and it looks like the black leather was redyed during the restoration. The leather does have some stress cracks, but looks very presentable. The steering wheel has been upgraded to a Nardi wooden wheel and it is in perfect condition. The car spent most of its life on the west coast and I don't see any evidence of rust.
According to the service records, a Tubi Style exhaust was installed in 1995 at a cost of over $3,000!
Included with the car is a tool kit in original bag, a full size spare, original owners manual and warranty booklet, service and parts manuals, and a few spare parts in the trunk.
The car's original owner lived in Las Vegas, then I believe at some point in the 80's the car moved to California. Service records indicate that the car was serviced in California regularly between 1990 and 2007. In 2010, the car was purchased by a collector and displayed in his museum until June of 2016.
Service records from 1990 to 2017, totaling over $44,000 are included with the car!
The car has a clean history, and a clean title in hand. I am happy to allow pre-purchase inspections.
