FOR SALE LOCALLY - EBAY AD MAY END EARLY
Up for sale is a factory built classic 1989 Dakota Sport 4x4 convertible. Around 3700 were made, and around 1000 were of the highly desirable 4x4 version. Of those, maybe around a third were the super rare manual 5speed overdrive. What makes this truly a unique truck is that the original owner checked the box for the "5050# GVW package". Which upgraded the suspension and added a 3.90 ratio rear axle that increases towing from 3500 to 5000 lbs. This truck has torque! Yet, what is surprising is how easily it cruises the freeway while getting great gas mileage. It has the larger 22 gal fuel tank instead of the normal 15 gal. This truck has never been in a accident. However, it has been driven coast to coast and up and down the USA.
Mostly highway miles in its lifetime, as it was owned by an airline pilot who got tired of seeing the United States at 30000 ft and wanted to explore it at ground level with the top down.
At 235,000 miles, a new Jasper crate 3.9L V6 motor was installed. (The Jasper engine is a matching duplicate of the original factory engine - per Jasper website). The 5speed transmission was rebuilt, new radiator, new A/C system installed, undercarriage coated, new sirus radio w/cd installed, carb rebuilt, new brake and rotors, along with a new convertible top. Both axles have been replaced or rebuilt.
This truck could easily be an everyday driver. While it has it chips and bruises, you will be proud to show it off, as it gets attention!
I bought it during Christmas 2017, in Arizona on Ebay, and drove it to Seattle that week in winter storms. It has always been garaged. I have owned over 300 cars and this is the one of a few that I kept the longest, as it is so fun to drive. Took it to Yellowstone for two weeks last year.
The engine and drive train are very strong, and the frame and body great! Don't worry about the high mileage as everything has either been rebuilt or replaced.
The 4x4 goes in and out effortlessly and works perfectly! The power windows, power steering, power door locks, wipers, heater and air conditioning all work great. The anti-lock brakes stop the truck quickly. It uses regular gas and no major oil leaks on the garage floor. It has the original factory rims. All lights work, including all fog and offroad lights.
This Dakota cost $17k new. $28k (pre-inflation) has been spent since, to make this a very reliable and fun machine.

Known Issues:
• Speedometer guage is off by approx. 5 mph... higher than normal. (Aways been this way.)
• Gas guage sender is off by a ¼ tank. You will run out of gas when it shows under ¼ tank. This truck has the larger option 22 gal fuel tank installed. The wrong smaller 15 gal tank fuel sender was installed in the past, is my guess.
• 4x4 indicator light on gear shift floor console does not light up when 4x4 is engaged.
• Emissions control pump is disconnected/bypassed.
• Rear bumper has slight dent.
• Small crack in windshield, lower driverside corner. Located in the black shaded area of window and not noticeable. (Has always been that way.)
• Fabric loose behind and above sunvisors.
• ½ dollar size dent on rear bed side behind driver.
• Faded decal stripe on rear lower right side of truck tailgate.
• Side Decals on truck have discoloration behind them.
• Chips and scratches in paint. Some areas have been touched up.
• Right rear black fender flare has a discoloration of 1½ inch near the top..
• Both side windows have deep scratches from convertible top frame being folded down without lowering windows first. (Has always been this way.)
• Convertible top has rub wear from frame joint, but does not leak and still looks good from 10ft.
• Engine requires a tune-up since its been 5 years.
