What we have here is a 1977 1/2 Dodge Charger Limited Edition, sometimes referred to as the Midnight Special. These were production model 1977 Dodge Chargers that were pulled from the assembly line and sent to Motortown Inc. for the conversion. The most obvious changes were the body colored grille, the painted outside mirrors, and the landau vinyl covered roof cap. I cannot find a definitive production number for the conversion, but according to Motor Trend magazine in 1977, plans were to build approximately 2400 copies. I suspect only a few survive today. This car appears to be number 443 in the production run and was possibly specially built for someone named Kempthorn. There is a brass tag on the radiator support with the model year, number, and name engraved. This car does NOT run, and has not for many years. I bought it in non-running condition approximately 13 years ago, and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. The engine does turn over, but I believe a plugged fuel system is part of the problem. The "Lean Burn" fuel control system and carburetor have been removed and are in the trunk. There is a replacement carburetor currently on the engine. The odometer shows 73524, but with a 5 digit odometer actual mileage is unknown. The car is equipped as follows:* 400 cubic inch big block engine*Column mounted automatic transmission*Factory installed air conditioning (obviously not functioning if the car does not run)*Raleigh type steel wheels*Car at some point was converted to dual exhaust*Bucket seats with center armrest*Cruise control*Manual windows, manual locks, and NO tilt wheel*Aftermarket Pioneer cassette deck The interior appears to be in pretty good shape, the vinyl is still pretty soft and I don' see any major cracks or damage to the seats. The dash pad does have a crack through it. The door panels are discolored, but not damaged, and the carpet is pretty nice. The trunk floor has some rust in it on the passenger side, and the lower quarter panel on the passenger side is rotted out in the rear. The rest of the sheet metal appears to be in pretty good shape including the rocker panels and front fenders. Here is a link to a walk around video of the car to show its condition:1977 Dodge Charger Midnight edition walk around (youtube.com) Again, this is a NON RUNNING project car, so its mechanical condition is unknown. I can confirm that the engine will crank over, and could possibly run if the fuel system were cleaned out. I just have too many projects, and so this car needs to go to clear room. I have a clear Iowa title in my name. This 1977 Dodge Charger is being sold "as is, where is" with no warranty express or implied as to its condition. I highly advise an inspection prior to purchase to verify the condition. Please study the video and pictures carefully as they are part of the description. I do not arrange shipping, so shipping arrangements are the buyer's responsibility. The car will have to be towed or trailered away, it does roll however.
