1989 Dodge Shadow Shelby CSX VNT Additional Info:
Up for sale today is a 1989 Shelby CSX VNT. This is #455 of 500 Produced in 1989.
The car is completely unmolested and 100% stock, and runs and drives fantastic.
Long story short, I purchased this car sight unseen without checking it out first and it was grossly misrepresented by the previous owner, and while I have fixed most of the undisclosed issues, I have decided to go a different route, as I do not want to molest this very rare, very desirable car.
I believe in complete honesty, so here is the complete rundown on the car:
89 Shelby CSX VNT. #455 of 500.2.2 Liter Intercooled VNT "Turbo IV" engine5-Speed Manual A555 TransmissionOnly 98,000 carfax verified miles.
The good:Car starts right up and runs excellent. No smoke, no leaks, no noises.
Transmission shifts smooth and clutch grabs well.
Suspension is tight, no play in ball joints, shocks and struts are still tight and show no signs of leakage.
Interior is in mostly very good condition with the exception of the passenger seat which has a small tear/hole in the shelby branded fabric. No major stains or damage of any kind.
Zero rust.Brakes are brand new and stop great.
A/C is ice cold, I just replaced the compressor and recharged it with R12.
Fiberride wheels are in fair to good condition.
VNT Turbo is intact and spools up very quickly and has zero shaft play.
The not so good (These are mostly things that the previous seller did not disclose):
The tires are 14 years old, and were crap when they were new. They still have plenty of tread and aren't really dry rotted but I would change them ASAP.
The paint has seen better days. There is some clearcoat peeling, and the front chin spoiler has been resprayed. I tried to take pics of all the trouble spots.
The windshield was replaced at some point with a regular Shadow window and does not have the proper Shelby badging across the tint line.
The Shelby badge on the rear hatch is missing.
(This is subjective:) The car has the bulge hood, which it shouldn't have come with from the factory. I have heard rumors a few slipped through with one, but it likely came from a Shadow performance package car. I personally think it looks better with it.
The horn is tempermental.
The drivers window is off the track. I have the new clips, but no time to put them on.
The cladding on the drivers door came loose and the previous owner used screws to reattach it.
The hatch shocks are weak. These are 10 bucks on ebay.
One fog light is missing.
That's about all I can think of. I try to be 100% honest on all of my cars, and these cars are generally very valuable when the VNT is still intact. This is still a low mileage survivor and could easily be brought back to it's former glory if someone invested a little time. I have located someone who has the seats and the badge and can put the new owner in contact with them.
I have set my buy it now and reserve very low, you'd be very hard pressed to find another CSX VNT, let alone one for this price with this low of miles. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere, but I would probably plan on putting new tires on it as soon as you arrive to your destination.
I am a licensed Missouri Dealer, and although this did come from my private collection, I will sell it through my dealership which means it will come with a Missouri Safety inspection and a 30 day Temporary tag at no extra charge.
Do not hesitate to ask any questions, and don't let this rare piece of Shelby history slip past you!
