1972 Dodge Polara Dukes of Hazzard police car clone Additional Info:
You're bidding on a 1972 Dodge Polara 500 sedan. The previous owner turned it into a "Dukes of Hazzard Roscoe P Coltrain" police car. MY plan was to remove the "sheriff" signs (they are magnetic) and restore the car as a regular "civilian" car in a beautiful metallic blue but, alas, health and finances require me to "thin the herd" a little.
The car is in very good condition for its age, The odometer reads 27,396 but due to its age, I suspect it's really 127,396. But from its condition it could really be 27,396!
I have had it in indoor storage for the last few years awaiting my planned restoration, so it was well protected from the elements.
The body has the typical little scratches and dings, but no dents. There is a little surface rust, primarily around the wheel wells and a little at the bottom edge of the rear window, but absolutely NO rust-through. The floor pan and trunk are the same way: some surface rust but completely intact. The paint is good, but not great. It would be fine for cruising and smaller local shows or cruise-ins, but it's not a high-tier show car.
The frame is solid with no rot. Again, surface rust appropriate for its age.
The interior is in good condition, except for two cracks in the dash pad (in front of the passenger seat), and the driver's seat has a large rip in it. The rear seat is in great condition. The carpet could use some shampoo, or replace it if you prefer. There are NO bad smells in the car. (Again, it's been stored in a clean, dry environment.)
The engine is a 360, 2-bbl. It runs strong, but could use a tune-up. The gas in the gas tank is very old and should be drained and replaced before running the engine.
The brakes were in good shape when I last checked, but have been sitting awhile so they should be checked before any road trips. The tires have good tread and hold air well, but they are old and, personally, I would replace them before any long trips or high-speed driving. But they would be fine for trailer loading or short maneuvering. Hoses and belts are in good shape, but as with the tires they are old and should be checked thoroughly before any significant road trip.
Lights, horn, wipers, gauges, etc., all worked the last time I ran the car, so they should still be good to go.
The car has a red & blue police lightbar on the roof, a period-correct antenna on the trunk lip and radio inside, but eBay does not allow police equipment to be included in the auction so ... all police lights, antennas and radios are "NOT INCLUDED" in this auction.
I have copies of the official Chrysler/Mopar service and parts manuals that I will include with the car.
Shipping is the buyer's responsibility. The car has been sitting for awhile, so you should NOT plan to drive it home. It really should be trailered. I MAY be able to deliver the car within 100 miles or so with the buyer covering my expenses.
The car is located within 2 miles of an interstate interchange, and is easily accessible for even the largest car-hauling equipment. I'm happy to work with any car transport service, and I can be available to assist with loading almost any day or time with a little advance notice.
I have a clear title in my name. A non-refundable deposit of $500 must be paid by PayPal within 24 hours of the auction end. The remaining balance can be cash at pickup, or a certified check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank. Any check must clear before the vehicle and title will be released. Non-paying bidders will be reported to eBay.
This vehicle is sold "AS IS" with NO WARRANTY and NO RETURNS.
Any questions, contact me via eBay's "ask the seller" feature. I'll reply within 24 hours.
