This is a strong driver in fair to good condition overall, having been garaged throughout its current (since 2016 at 98,000 miles indicated) ownership, reportedly residing in the High Desert of California its entire life. Odometer just rolled over and indicates 00046 miles. All components of this car are present, with almost all of them fully functional, though it is certainly not flawless. This is a solid driver-quality car that could be restored fully with minimal effort.
The Engine has a replacement block, indicated by lack of serial numbers, and runs very well. Newly installed cooling system with aluminum radiator and Z-type thermostat elbow with electric fan and fan controller with temperature sensor replace the problematic original thermostat tower/cap-less radiator. (original radiator and fan included in sale price.) The original smog equipment has been removed, but is included in sale. New East Coast Roadsters electronic ignition, “recurved” for operation without smog equipment recently installed. 4 Speed transmission works well, with all syncros fully functional, but sale price includes a complete 5-speed transmission and most components to retrofit it. Both the transmission and rear axle fluids were recently replaced and are leak-free.
The original Spanish Red was repainted red at some point and shows some areas of peeling. There is virtually no rust on this car other than in each front wheel well/door jamb, the worst of which involves the driver’s door angle-stop attachment, which is detached. There appears to have been some bondo added at the outside bottom of the door/front fender interface but the body is otherwise very solid with no rust other than some small areas of surface rust underneath. The windshield does have a crack, and the side windows, while in good condition, have slipped off the internal frames and are not functional with the regulator.
The soft top is in excellent condition except for the two forward grommet holes, which are elongated. Window clarity is excellent, and the frame is unbent. Tonneau cover in excellent condition included, as well as a custom car cover. Trunk luggage rack included with sale, but has not been installed.
The interior is in good condition with the exception of the top of the dash which has cracks and was covered with a rubber mat by a previous owner. All instruments and lighting (except for the clock) work accurately. All external lights work. Aftermarket stereo installed behind the seats in an external enclosure and could be removed easily. The heater control valve appears frozen shut, and the car has been run during my tenure exclusively with the winter/summer valve in the engine bay set to summer, bypassing the heater core (although the heater core appears sound).
A variety of spare parts is included in sale, most notably a new brake master cylinder, as well as a new oil pan and valve cover gaskets, and a collection of original AM radios.
