1978 Datsun Z-Series Z Additional Info:
I purchased the car at an auction and planned on restoring it. Car did not start & interior was in bad shape. I looked over the car and noticed it didn't have rust in the normal areas they're know to usually have so I got it.Here is the breakdown of what I've done to the car and a description of it:
Body:Very solid body. Some dents as seen on pics. NO RUST under battery tray. NO RUST in the trunk. NO RUST in the door jambs or under the doors. I got the car with the passenger side window down, when I took interior apart and pulled old carpet off, I found that the passenger side floor was completely rusted out.I took it to a local body shop who told me he would patch it up real good, he actually did a HORRIBLE job patching it so I will say the floor should be replaced with replacement panels and done right. The original air dam is very bent and will also need to be replaced.
Interior:I installed a dash cap which looks really good. I was able to purchase a set of used door panels that were in really good condition. Seats need to be re-upholstered and once floor panels are installed it will need a complete carpet set.The trunk is completely original and rust free. The original spare tire with the original air can and tools are there too!
Motor and transmission:I replaced the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, rotor and fusible link wires. I also installed a new ignition switch. The car starts and sounds great. It does have a Flowmaster muffler on the tail. The throttle linkage is still very stiff so it needs to be dismantled and worked on so that the car can accelerate smoothly. The transmission is in good condition, the clutch also feels good. It will need the brakes gone thru. I did install rear brake shoes and the spring kit but front pads and bleeding should be done.
Other:It does have some surface rust on the radiator support. Also has rust on the right hood inspection lid hinge. There is a part of the lip around the right side top firewall (over the battery section) that has rust. "see pics"
I purchased 4 new tires that I have not installed and are included in the sale.
This is an original A/C car and the entire system is there. I have a clear Texas title on-hand. Car is sold as-is where is and no warranty is offered. I have described the car to the best of my abilities. This is a great PROJECT car!
