Offered for sale is this well preserved 1949 Citroen 11BL 'Légère' Traction Avant Sedan Chassis #2491385. The Traction Avant, or “Front Wheel Drive” in French, was originally introduced by Citroen in 1934. Production ran until 1957 with a number of updates and configurations having been introduced over this time. The Traction Avant was one of the first mass produced vehicles to employ three features considered to be revolutionary at the time; these are: unibody construction, four wheel independent suspension and a front wheel drive layout. This 1949 Traction Avant, the second iteration of the model, is called the 11; which features a larger Inline 4-cylinder engine than its predecessor. The 'Légère' designation denotes that this model had the narrow track and shorter wheelbase of the first generation cars.
This 1949 ‘Traction Avant’ has been kept in highly original condition and has previously been treated to a cosmetic restoration. Preserved in highly authentic condition, the exterior wears an older repaint in the original Black color which presents well. Chrome bright work is in good shape and other trim/lighting around the car remains intact and functional. The interior is in excellent shape overall with what is believed to be an older restoration. Plush seats and door panels are covered in a greenish/gray fabric. The headliner and other upholstery are similarly in excellent shape. The black painted dash features the unique 3-speed manual shift lever and a Jaeger gauge cluster which shows 64,206 miles. The original steering wheel shows some wear commensurate with age, but its patina and originality adds a nice charm amongst the restored interior. In that spirit, the previous caretakers of this Citroen have chosen to leave the engine compartment as original as possible by keeping it unrestored. The carburetor, battery and radiator hoses appear newer. The 1,911cc Inline 4-cylinder, engine #AF 06487, is original to the car and matches the Chassis data plate. In good cosmetic condition overall – a nice, original and numbers matching example.
