THE SHORTEST WHEELBASE OF ANY OF THE '51 CHRYSLER WAGONSPRISTENE ORIGINAL INTERIOR===========TOTALLY ORIGINALRuns--drives & stops
This Windsor Town & Country Wagon has the shortest wheelbase and shortest overall lengthof any of the 1951 Chrysler Wagons. It is not restored but stilloffers some amazing original attributes, especially when one considers its75-year-old historyWe have ownedthis automobile for nearly 20 years, and it has been in the back storage area ofDowntown Desoto, an automobile museum in Clinton, Missouri.During the spring of 2024our Town & Country was brought to the sunlightand fired up. The gas tank was cleaned, new points were installed,the oil was changed,the wide whitewall tires were checked, and we were on our way. We have driven it sparingly sincethat time. At a distance the paint is presentable however most buyers would definitely want a repaint/rechrome restoration done.
Aside from the fact that our Chrysler is extremelyrare, our wagon also offers an AMAZING ORIGINAL INTERIOR WITH WOOD ACCENTSoriginal floor rubber
WHY ? ? BECAUSE DURING ITS 75 YEAR LIFETIME, IT HAS HAD THE PROTECTION OF THE CLEAR PLASTIC SEATCOVERS THAT WERE SO EXTREMELY POPULAR DURING THE 1950s.These covers were dirty, cloudy, seemingly quite brittle and we were reluctant to pull them off. But alas, gingerly, carefully each cover was removed. Underneath, the original maroon pigskin vinyl seat covering with maroon cloth inserts in
NEAR NEW CONDITION ! !
====================
Mechanically our Town and Country is powered by Chrysler's tried and true 251 Cubic inch L-head engine,which produces a very respectable 116 horsepower. It is coupled with the Fluid Drive transmission which offeredmany of the attributes of most automatic transmissions.All of the gages, including the speedometer work correctly, with the exception of the fuel gage. This was checked and it is in need of a new fuel tank sending unit. As mentioned previously, our Town and Country has a 20-year history of dry storage. It has been driven approximately 30 miles since its unwrapping. We are sure there are things thatwill have to be done to make our car totally road-worthy.
==newly restored==TAILGATE ROLL-UP WINDOWOur Wagon, like many, had an inoperable rear tailgate window. Rather than pass the problem on down the line, we had ours taken out and restored by;White Machine Shop ofClinton, Missouri.It works great and still retains the locking tailgate mechanism.
SO What AboutUNDERCARRIAGE RUST ? ?
We have done an inspection of the undercarriage on our unrestored Town & Country and we have found.no perforation due to rust.Yes, as can be expected, there is surface rust on the undercarriage but these areas canbe cleaned up with a wire brush and repainted should one desire. but our message is clear;put your welder away--zero perforation
Jim Raysik has been selling cars and trucks in the small town of Clinton, Missouri for nearly 50 years. First, as a salesperson for Stayton Chevrolet, then as the owner of Jim Raysik Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge and Jeep. In 1989 the GMC Franchise was added. In the middle 1990s, Jim and Becky had the opportunity to purchase the decades old Chrysler Building, one block South of historic Clinton Square District. This became "Downtown Desoto" and currently has a total of over 100 cars and trucks, some junk yard escapees, some national show winners. At 77 years of age, it's time to sell a few.(Becky's words/not mine).
