The lingering economic issues plaguing the country might have dominated the headlines and captured the bulk of the collective attention during the '30s, but Detroit was sure turning out some stylish cars at the same time, as this 1934 Chrysler Sedan CA ably shows. This lengthy classic features inspired, factory-issue styling from front to back, combined with an unusually high level of authenticity. Even better, it's more than just a stationary conversation piece - this vintage Chrysler can be taken... out of the garage and enjoyed with no delay. Despite having been applied a while back, the coat of black paint now draped over the exterior has held up nicely - take a lap around and you won't find any blemishes of note to diminish your enthusiasm. The overall texture is surprisingly smooth and a detailing session will have it exuding maximum shine in no time. As was the norm during the era, there's a creative and generous use of chrome on display here, including a seriously ornate front grille, prominent headlight casings and trim ornamenting the sides of the hood and all of it has aged gracefully. Step around to the side and you'll get the full impact of this classic's aesthetics - flowing fenders are in place in both front and back, partitioned by broad, rubber-covered running boards, the long, level hood gives way to a generously proportioned cabin surrounded by quite a display of glass and the pair of suicide doors are still another defining element. Inside, this Chrysler's cockpit has seen some freshening up over the years while retaining an overall stock presentation. Both rows of bench seating are plushly padded for plenty of comfort and their attractive two-tone cloth covers are well-positioned for plenty more miles. Clean carpet lines the floor, the generous collection of windows surrounding the cabin is nice and clear and, as you take a look beyond the steering wheel you'll see a museum-worthy dash area, featuring a pair of parchment displays - one of which is multi-functional and had to have been considered quite a bit ahead of its time when this classic debuted. A pair of aftermarket gauges have been added to the mix to keep closer tabs on operating temperature and voltage. The instrumentation is surrounded by burlwood accents that really look impressive - there are no scuffs in sight and the chrome-framed glove box door sits flush in its closed position. The 241.5 cubic inch flathead 6 on board in front is almost certainly the original powerplant and even now, some 85 years after it was called into service, is in good running form, starting up without issue and pulling with enthusiasm. The engine pairs with a 3-speed manual transmission that shifts much smoother than you would expect to make up a capable, vintage drivetrain - this sedan is very much ready to take to the street without any hold ups. It offers a steady ride while sending a pleasing note out of the exhaust peering out from beneath the rear bumper. A set of black steel wheels with Chrysler-branded chrome hub caps that are wrapped with 6.00 - 16 white wall tires puts a stylistic punctuation point on this appealing vintage ride. It's not often you encounter a car from this era that's come through the decades still in full possession of its original configuration and rarer still when that configuration combines with the road-readiness of this 1934 Chrysler Sedan CA.
