1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown 4 door sedan
I bought this car ten years ago and have done a lot of work on it. Time and interest for the project have decreased so I have decided to sell it. This car sat in a storage unit for 20 plus years before I acquired it. After sitting 20 years it needed some attention. I have rebuilt the brake system including sending off front calipers and having stainless inserts installed. Resealed rear wheel cylinders and replaced master cylinder and flushed lines. New pads on front, rear brake shoes were fine. Replaced all rear axle seals. Transmission was a little sluggish so removed it and put a gasket and seal kit in it, works fine now as all internal parts were in great condition. Engine tested out fine with compression test variation only 4 to 5 lbs difference between cylinders. Replaced water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, fuel pump, re-cored radiator, replaced radiator hoses, re-sealed valve covers, replaced intake manifold gasket and repacked front wheel bearings. Also had to replace gas tank and had instrument cluster rebuilt as clock and fuel gauge would not work correctly. Has new tires as well. A/c blows cold and heater blows hot. Have done some work to carburetor but I would recommend sending off to Holley and having it fully restored, that was to be my next step, quote from them is $446.00 for full restoration of carburetor. Have kept parts original by the help of ebay and mopar restoration sites. Gas tank was one part I could not find so it is aftermarket. Signal switch in steering column is new-that was pricey with the tilt and telescopic wheel. Has new shock absorbers and drives like you are floating on air. Starter and alternator have been rebuilt by professional shop. Distributor was worn a bit so I installed mopar electronic ignition- I believe came out in 1969-you can’t tell it is there unless you remove distributor cap. Nice solid rust free car and straight as you will find. Only body damage is light scratch on left front fender. Piece above left front corner light was replaced so is different color. Paint is decent for age but I was going to repaint when finished with mechanical work. Interior is good except front seat is worn. Everything works as it should except passenger front window decided to quit working a while back-most likely ground wire on motor needs soldered back on. Carburetor and this passenger window are the only problems that I can think of mechanically . Car is in great condition, most of what I repaired is due to time, not use. Odometer reads 57672.
