1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup, 1st Series
6 cylinder (235 cu in), 4-speed w/compound low
Chevrolet’s radically different 1947-1955 “Advanced Design” light-duty trucks represented a sea of change in pickup design and appearance. Rightfully, they are coveted by collectors worldwide; however, 68 years after production of the series, unmolested original examples are almost impossible to find. Especially, the 1955 “First Series” pickup commands a premium among enthusiasts. Last of the classic design, first to have an open driveshaft instead of a torque tube the final “First Series” Fifty-Fives were built on March 25, 1955 when the all-new “Early V8” pickups truck were announced by Chevrolet.
Scores of Chevy people that restore older trucks today prefer the original look, combined with “modern” mechanical components. However, there’s quite of number of real antique truck lovers, people like us, who desire the exact original “feel.” The 1955 “First Series” survivor truck presented here is a most unique find, sure to please the most ardent admirer of a truly original “Advanced Design” model.
This unique and original 1st series 1955 Chevrolet pickup is mechanically brand new!It is a former pickup out of Southern California which sat unused in dry garage storage, for over 50 years. Upon receipt of the truck I rebuilt all the systems in the pickup to their original condition as much as possible. As a purist, every effort was made to restore to factory or better standards. It is a six volt system. While not currently on the pickup I have the original hood ornament and side and front hood chrome. Even the dome light works!
I am the third owner of the pickup and has been driven less than 500 miles. It is a reliable drive and could be a daily driver. With very minor rusting, the body is straight. All the fenders, running boards and quarter panels are solid and original sheet metal. The truck has minor bumps and bruises you would expect for a truck of this age.Excess weight was placed on the hood and “buckled/creased” it. The The hood was replaced by the former owner.Otherwise it has the original paint and patina.Interior and window glass is all original and needs to be replaced. The cost of parts for this is relatively low and installation easy. It even has the original hubcaps!
When driving it is solid with no shimmy or shaking.I get a lot of smiles, thumbs up and horn honking. It’s fun to drive, servicing is easy, low miles — and dirt cheap classic car insurance.
Regrettably, due to health and injuries I am unable to continue working on the pickup. My loss is your gain.Completed Work. etc:
Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity, these just don’t come along very often.
