1962 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible Additional Info:

1962 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible

Some 8,000 Corvairs were stockpiled at the GM's Milford, Michigan Proving Grounds in preparation for the October 1959 launch; 250 were "swimmers" (caught in a flood) but cleaned up, reupholstered and sold. Gas mileage could be as high at 26 m.p.g. highway, until the VW-style gasoline-powered heater was fired up at a loss of 6 to 8 m.p.g. Unibody construction with welded front fenders, a first for GM, meant that Fisher Body employees aligned the whole car.

For consignment a resprayed 1962 Corvair Convertible which does not currently run. The Monza 900 optioned, although basic, that is in fair condition exterior wise, and fair for the black interior.

Exterior
A blue respray has been painted on, some of it over slight rust areas. Chrome bumpers are just a bit dented but show without corrosion or dimpling. Brite-work and badging are all there, presenting in fair condition. A black convertible top appears intact and the rear window is clear plastic. All the lighting on this car is un-cracked and in good condition.

Interior
Inside we note a few missing parts, ripped vinyl, and taped areas on the seats. This car has two front buckets which reside very close to one another, and a rear bench, which is not taped or split open, but is very dirty. An original standard Corvair padded dash is upfront and shows some cracking in the center of this dash. A little fading but is all intact, and any aftermarket mounted radio. Also noted is a direct air heater, which will heat, but will also cut down on gas mileage. The steering wheel is original. Carpeting is original, and appears a bit dirty, and faded, but has floor mats that match the black carpeting. A flopper shifter rises from the center between the seats in front of them. Door panels show some dirt and are coming apart at the seams on the center panels near the surrounds.

Drivetrain
The standard 164ci 4-cylinder mounted in the back is fed by a one-barrel carb and sits in the unrestored (original) dusty engine bay. It is attached to a 4-speed manual floor shifted transmission. Be reminded this engine does not currently run or start. It does however crank but would not fire up.

Undercarriage
Patina and age are showing underneath, with repaired floorpan panels welded in to replace rusted ones which are no longer there. On remaining surfaces heavy undercoating is sprayed on, and there is surface rust on some suspension parts. Independent coil springs are upfront, and swing arm suspension is on back. Drum brakes are all around. Some oiling is going on the bottom end of the engine.

Overall a barn find condition Corvair, dents dings dust and rust, and does not currently run but does crank. It's here for the taking, and open to your interpretation, and not limited in your creativity as to exactly what to do or which way to go.
