1986 Chevrolet S10 Blazer
After a long period of use in referencing a larger truck-like Chevrolet vehicle, the Blazer name was applied to a mid-sized product in 1984 as a direct competitor against the Jeep Cherokee. Since its inception as a midsize sport utility vehicle, the Chevrolet Blazer was built on a ladder frame chassis shared with the S-10 compact truck.
For consignment, a fully customized S-10 blazer. This truck could be considered a "trailblazer" with its unique shaved rear bumper, ultra wide rear tires, tinted glass and rear spoiler. Now built for speed, with a big 383ci stroker and TH350 combo under the hood, and a Fairbanks shifter, it will go fast in a straight line or on a curved road, all the while looking like a 1 of a kind example of the 1986 Blazer
Exterior
Let's start upfront, a very good place to start, where we see a simplified horizontal ribbed grille, single flanking headlights and a body matching front bumper in red. A fiberglass cowled hood, straight steel fenders and doors with more deep red paint and a blue highlighting pinstripe at the beltline. Gaps are all well minded, and windows are tinted. Custom fabricated side view mirrors are now hanging from both sides, and the rear quarters now accommodate the shiny Weld Rodlite wheels wrapped in the back with Mickey Thompspon 31x18x15 Sportsman tires. On top the roof rack has been replaced with a much more functional rear spoiler atop. More smoked glass for the rear gate setup, and a shaved bumper with now integrated custom taillights inserted into the rear roll pan.
Interior
Talk about custom, this truck shouts it out with a swing of the doors and we are met with red speckle tweed mixed with black plastic and vinyl panels. These doors are definitely a party going on and we haven't even gotten inside as of yet! Turning our attention to the inside, which makes use of a red tweed peppered with colored speckles to emulate the door panels. Now there is a party going on! A custom aluminum panel dash now fronts the rally style steering wheel on ...you guessed it a speckle tweed column. (I'll drink to that). An attached tachometer hangs off to the right side of the column, and in the center of the dash are another quad of aftermarket gauges hanging directly above the Fairbanks shifter setup, floating in a sea of red carpet. A digital radio is now inserted into the original space and is surrounded by a near perfect red dash top. For the rear, a speckle tweed wrapped Pro Street roll cage is now in, rear bench is removed and it makes room for the tubbed rear gigantic tires and wheels, as well as a NOS bottle (not hooked up)5. Side interior panels and the headliner are also the red background with the colored speckle. Now the party is really rollin'. Last one in the pool with a suit on is a rotten egg!
Drivetrain
In keeping with the unique and the straight line go fast theme, under the hood we note a new 383ci V8 with aftermarket aluminum heads, a single 4-barrel carburetor atop and a TH350 3-speed automatic on back. The rear axle is a Ford 9-inch with 4.56 gears and has a spool. Engine is shiny and bright with chromed valve covers, a chromed air cleaner cover, and nice black headers. Woven stainless hoses for fuel delivery ensure plenty of fossils feed the engine.
Undercarriage
A 12-gallon fuel cell hangs off the back underneath, and as we move forward, we note those tubbed rear fenders, that massive rear pumpkin, and ladder bars for the grip and grinning. Frame and floor pans are structurally sound and upfront new coil-overs have been installed. Power disc brakes are here upfront as well, and on back are power drum brakes. Seen are short pipe chambered mufflers which will definitely get attention when you get goosey with your boot.
Drive-Ability
In a word...fast and loud, but that was two words, and I digress.... This custom S-10 Blazer smoked the test track and the tires and worked all just swimmingly. All functions are going on as planned, and it was an exciting test drive, which when finished, left with a smile on my face.
A party for your right foot, and your eyes in the interior speckled tweed and use of materials. Great paint and wonderful rodded custom looker and cooker. Pass the "dutchie" to the left-hand side...Party on Garth!
