1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega Additional Info:
Incredible time capsule 1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega. # 3401 of production. Years of storage make this a "Barn Find" condition car. The mileage 2,882.6 is original. The car was purchased in N.Y, driven to Western PA, and then to West Virginia where because of it's rarity, no Chevrolet garages were trained to work on the car so it was stored......and forgotten. The building owner that stored the car finally acquired title to the car for storage fees.I acquired the car in a trade for restoration work from the building owner. A clear title goes with the car.The amazing story of this rare Cosworth Vega begins at Central Chevrolet in South Rochester NY. The window sticker bearing that information and the list of standard and optional accessories remains intact on the LH rear window where it was placed originally at the factory in Lordstown Ohio. The unique Cosworth inspired engine was hand assembled in Tonawanda NY. Designed to be a lightweight high performance sports car, Federal emissions regulations cause Cosworth and Chevrolet to perform several power robbing emissions modifications. The 122 C.I T356 Aluminum 4 cylinder engine featured a 17% silica content block that allowed the special piston rings to ride inside the cylinder bores without needing iron sleeves. In addition, this was Chevrolet's first double overhead cam engine, it's first electronic fuel injection engine, it's first high performance stainless steel header type exhaust manifold engine, and it's first commercial product partnership with a foreign race proven engine manufacturer. The Cosworth Vega was truly a unique car.I have not altered this car from the way it was found and the few items that appear to have been repair efforts at the time it was parked are also with the car ( fuel Pump, radio and speaker). After 45 years, I can't guarantee that every single part is there, but if something is missing' it won't be much. The exterior and undercarriage have mild surface rust. The car still has it's original paint and interior. Pictures of the car show it missing the rear window. That was also found and placed with the car. It will have to be re-installed. A cracked LH headlight bezel was also replaced with an OEM GM replacement.I did vacuum the engine compartment to remove the leaves and critter dirt that was found on top the engine. I've not tried to start the engine so although it's all extremely low mileage components, a rebuild or replacement is advised. Crankcase oil looked fine, and water was drained for storage at some point. The interior is intact with the seats having no tears or real wear. Everything is just dirty and needs cleaned. But it is the perfect starting point for an awesome low mileage restoration of an iconic Chevrolet.I'll be happy to answer any question you have about the car. If I don't have the answer, I'll tell you so.The car is sold "as is" with no warranty expressed or implied. It rolls fine and the buyer will be required to pick the car up at my garage once it is paid for. Unlike most project Vegas, this is no rust heap. This car could easily be transformed into an original conversation piece, restored as a low mileage icon, engine swapped to create a fabulous touring sports car, or converted for a lightweight drag car. The possibilities are endless, but they're only original once. For those who want to restore this car, I have several N.O.S parts to assist that goal. I also have an original Lordstown Factory Bendix Fuel Injection Blueprint used by the engineers in 1975-6 on the shop floor, and other memorabilia separate from this auction that will be made available to the buyer. Good luck bidding.

On Jul-30-20 at 16:45:41 PDT, seller added the following information:A prospective buyer asked if all four Aluminum Cosworth Vega wheels were there. Yes....the picture showing the spare on the RR location was temporary to roll the car onto the trailer. The original rim's tire was flat, so we put the temporary on.
