We have a very large collection of original, unrestored cars. That being said, we are getting older and find the number of cars we have too large and cumbersome to maintain by myself. So we either have to hire full time staff or sell off a few of the cars that we drive the least. The simplest option is selling some of the cars. It takes me weeks every year just to lube the cars and change the oil / filter not to mention doing other work. I want to drive them, not endlessly maintain and clean them.
This is one of the cars we drive the least. Not for any particular reason however it just is not my favorite cruising car. I like looking at it even though I owned one in 1974. It drives exactly like what it is, an original low mileage ( roughly 34,700 miles as of this writing ) time capsule 1974 Chevrolet Vega Estate wagon. In 1974 this is what the car drove like and that is still what it drives like today. We still take the car out once or twice a month to antique car cruise ins locally so the mileage will go up 20 plus miles each time.
Very loaded with options ( reasons unknown) for it's time. Dual mirrors; automatic transmission; air conditioning ( on a Vega go figure ) ; sport steering wheel ; clock; am/fm stereo radio ; wheel rims; full carpet, rear defroster and probably something else I do to recall.
Since we have owned the car, new radials have been installed ( old tires were probably 35 years old ) and all the fluids have been flushed and replenished. The car has been tuned up and all maintenance items have been taken care of.
The car starts right up; runs and drives well; stops well. Everything works ( but the clock which is typical ) The car is rust free top to bottom. Clean and shiny underneath with no evidence of rusting or damage. Paint is shiny and nice ( there may be some very minor chips somewhere or faint car wash scratches ) but you would be hard pressed to see them. I don't recall seeing any but I am trying to be clear. This is an unrestored original time capsule.
As of today there is absolutely nothing that needs to be done to the car other than finding a NOS passenger mirror. The one on the passenger side is starting to get pits but not on the drivers side. Other than that, it is good as it is.
No, don't bother to ask about taking anything in trade. We have more than enough cars. If you want to see or drive the car, or have someone inspect it, it is just fine. Email and we will give you the address of the car.
As lovely and original as this car is though, it is still a 46 year old used car and it is sold as i, where is with no warranties as per Florida law.
