1986 Chevrolet Corvette Additional Info:
The first Corvette convertible produced in over 10 years was bestowed with the honor of being named the Official Pace Car for the 1986 Indianapolis 500. Although the actual pace car was yellow, all 7,315 1986 Corvette convertibles were considered pace car replicas, regardless of color, and pace car graphics were included with every car although not installed at the factory. Each convertible also received an Official Pace Car dash emblem.Since the convertible was introduced mid-year, its 5.7L L98 engine received new aluminum cylinder heads, lowering the curb weight of the car as well as adding an additional 5 HP over the earlier L98. This car also has the optional Doug Nash 4+3 manual transmission with overdrive, and sport seats, bringing the original list price to right around $35,000. After 33 years this Corvette remains stock and unmodified. This beautiful California car has approximately 35,650 original miles, meaning it has been driven less than 1,100 miles per year on average. It received new paint and decals this year, as well as a rear exhaust system and tune up. The tires are almost new with no uneven wear. Mechanically this car is in great condition, it starts, runs, drives, shifts, and stops well. When I purchased the car it needed to be painted so I had a nice single stage paint job done in the factory original color. There is no overspray in the door jambs, under the hood, or even underneath the fuel door. I then applied the Pace Car lettering from Phoenix Graphix. Many of the '86 convertibles are not lettered, and a lot of them that are have the graphics done incorrectly, with lettering on the wrong side or positioned incorrectly. The pace car graphics on this car are correct. I also replaced the front and rear emblems with excellent GM originals. The original convertible top is in poor condition, but I simply put it down in the spring and have been driving the car on nice days ever since. There are a few other things which could be upgraded to make this a true show car, both seats show some wear and some of the power adjustments do not work, but the dash, steering wheel, and door panels are all very nice as you would expect for a car with only 35,000 miles. This C4 isn't without some of the typical problems common to this model. The Bose stereo has power but doesn't play. All of the gauges seem to work fine but part of the cluster isn't as bright as it once was. The ABS light is on and the check engine light comes on occasionally but doesn't affect drivability. I have never tried the air conditioning but the heater works very well. All of the lights, turn signals, horn, parking brake, power windows, headlight motors, etc. work perfectly.I bought this car in the spring just to drive on nice days to car shows and cruise-ins. I have thoroughly enjoyed every mile that I have driven it, but other projects require that I free up some funds and garage space. It has been detailed and covered after every drive, and the fitted dust cover is included with the sale. This car has not been wet, left outside overnight, or even driven through a puddle since I've owned it. The paint job is still like new with no scratches or stone chips.
