1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Coupe
In 1963, San Francisco Giants Manager Alvin Dark joked, "they'll put a man on the moon before pitcher Gaylord Perry hits a home run." On July 20, 1969, less than an hour after Neil Armstrong's historic moon walk, Perry hit his first career homer. And... The Beatles originally planned to have an album titled Everest. However, the band didn't want to travel all the way to Mount Everest for the album cover photoshoot. This lead album title changing to Abbey Road, which was the street right outside their studio.
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius in the form of some muscle right out of 1969 and this wonderful Chevrolet Chevelle. The beneficiary of a frame off restoration in 2005, it now presents in really nice condition. Sporting its original interior excepting the carpet and headliner, this car is a goer and a show-er. I've now "gotta whole lotta love" (Led Zeppelin).
Exterior
The restoration which only needed some new front sheet metal, and a tiny patch to the trunk upper right, otherwise it's all original metal. The factory Azure Turquoise is now replaced by Cortez Silver, and it is a very nicely done job. Panels are laser straight and gaps very consistent. All chrome trim and badging is excellent and super shiny. A black vinyl top is very nice, and 15x6 GM SS wheels are seen on all 4's.
Interior
Original door panels and front bucket seats with a rear bench are very nicely preserved and appear almost new. The dash is very clean with an aftermarket tach with shift lights that has been mounted. The center console now sports a Hurst 1/4 stick shifter complete with line lock, and also looks nearly new. New black carpet has been installed and floods all the floors. Above a new headliner is nice and tight with working lighting. Also, worth a look is the near perfect trunk with pristine liner and all buttoned up spare with jack.
Drivetrain
A flip of the hood and all I can say is WOAH! I'm bowled over with an orange painted block 396ci (1969 casting, #3955272) has been bored over .30 and has 11.1 pistons installed along with roller rockers. The cam is the equivalent to a factory 375hp version. This is topped by a Demon 850 CFM carburetor. Also seen is an aluminum radiator, and an MSD ignition. A TH-400 with a shift kit and a 3300 stall converter throws power to the rear via an aluminum drive shaft and an Eaton 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear.
Undercarriage
Extremely clean, well restored, structurally sound, no problems here to speak of on the undercarriage. Consigner states all new suspension bushings have replaced the originals, heavy duty front and rear sway bars, boxed control arms, and new springs and shocks have also been installed.
Drive-Ability
Absolutely it definitely has drive-ability and then some! The fire lights quickly and has a tremendous sound courtesy of the Flowmaster H pipe dual exhaust. Shifting is a breeze and can be done very quickly. A true muscle car that will not fool around after the arm drop.
Absolutely jaw dropping bundle of steel and loads of muscle. Painstakingly restored to as close to perfection as one can get, but with true power added, and lots of new parts for giggles put on. It's no laughing matter though, and is well worth a look if you want a true head turner and neck snapper....and Jupiter aligns with Mars!
