1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Additional Info:
For sale at Blackdog Performance Cars is a Bloomington Gold Hall of Fame 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Convertible. Yes, you read that correctly, this is a REAL L88, 427 CID Big Block powered 1969 Corvette Convertible. This multiple award winning L88 is one of the lowest-mile, all original (engine, transmission, interior, paint, etc.) 1969 L88 Corvettes in the world. The odometer reads 6,456, which does represent the actual mileage on the car. The iconic L88 427 V8 engine is 'rated' at 430 horsepower and is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission that transfers the power to the Posi-Trac rear end that houses 3.70 gears. The M22 'Rock Crusher' is a close ratio, heavy duty, 4-speed manual transmission that was only available with certain configurations. Obviously, it was available with the L88. There were also a few other options that were mandatory with the L-88 package including: Special Heavy-Duty Brakes, Special Performance Front and Rear Suspension, and Posi-Traction Rear Differential. Conversely, if you wanted the all-powerful L88, you had to give up the radio and air conditioning, as they were not available with this package.Let’s spend a minute on the piece de resistance of this beauty, the L88 427 CID Big Block V8 engine. The L88 was first offered in the 1967 Corvette. It is a highly modified version of the Chevrolet 427 Big Block V8 engine that includes a racing-spec cam, high-flow aluminum heads, many other competition-grade parts, and runs at a 12.50:1 compression ratio. The horsepower rating at 430 was well known to be extremely conservative, with the actual power thought to the be in the mid to upper 500s, possibly as high a 580 horsepower! It is believed Chevrolet actually discouraged the common buyer from ordering the L88 because they wanted to focus on selling them to race teams and see them at the racetrack. And why not, the stock L88 Corvette could run the quarter mile in the mid to high 11 second range fresh off the assembly line. Due to low horsepower rating, very few were ordered and sold, 20 in 1967, 80 in 1968, and 116 in 1969, for a grand total of 216 throughout the 3-year production run.The original Can-Am White exterior paint on this 69’ Corvette is in awesome survivor condition. The black vinyl interior is also in amazing condition, no cracks, rips, or tears are present on any interior piece. The vinyl soft top is white in color, while the auxiliary hardtop in finished in black vinyl, which is in very good condition. This L-88 Corvette is extremely well documented. Coming with the sale of the car is the original build sheet, tank sticker, window sticker, owner’s manual, warranty book, original owner’s mileage statement, and original bill of sale. The prestigious awards this exceptionally rare Corvette has received include Bloomington Gold Hall of Fame, Bloomington Gold Special Collection, Bloomington Gold Certified, and a Chip’s Choice nod of appreciation. It goes without saying that this is a must have for any Corvette enthusiast or collector. This is a mic-drop/end of conversation piece for any serious collection.
