1951 Chevrolet Truck Restored Additional Info:

1951 Chevrolet 1 1/2 stake bed truck with 216 CID engine. This Chevrolet truck was sold new in Nogales, Arizona by the Nogales Cheshire Motor Company to Mrs. Garrett Wray nee Esther Ross Wray who owned a long time Mexican curio business in that city. Esther Ross Wray bought the truck new for use in her business for transport and deliveries, during which it had limited local use. Miss Ross is a legendary figure in Arizona history as a young woman selected to christen the battleship USS Arizona on June 19, 1915 in the New York Navy Yard.
The truck was recovered over two decades ago in original unrestored condition by Mr. Hector Martinez, a local Chevrolet truck enthusiast, who immediately recognized it's restoration potential, especially having been a locally sold truck to a local business, two blocks from Mr. Martinez's restaurant. Mr. Martinez had all the mechanical restoration work conducted under his supervision. He first restored the truck to it's original dark green color and the interior in original materials.
The truck is in excellent running condition and is capable of being driven at highway speeds. Having lived it's entire life in southern Arizona, all the metal is rust free and intact. It was a straightforward restoration. In time the truck needed the restoration refreshed.
A few years later, when Mr. Martinez's son graduated from the University of Arizona, to show his gratitude and appreciation to the UofA had the truck painted in the "Wildcat" colors and was used often at football games and especially Homecoming celebrations. During numerous events the truck transported the President and Board of Regents of the University of Arizona.
I am listing the truck on behalf of Mr. Martinez who has been experiencing some health issues and believes it is time for this historic and significant piece of history to go to a new home.
