1965 Chevrolet Chevelle malibu Additional Info:
Up for sale is my 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 4dr wagon. This is being sold without engine, transmission, ignition system. I have owned this wagon for four years now. The only reason for letting it go is to complete another project. This wagon has been strictly a race car for most of it's life. The little history I know is that it was a NHRA Division 7 car up until the early 90s, believed to be from the Los Angeles area. After that it was in Indiana through the mid 90s and then ended up in Long Island, New York where it sat behind a body shop until I bought it in 2014. The wagon is currently registered and insured to myself in Rhode Island. Rhode Island does not require titles for vehicles older than 2001.
This vehicle is being sold as a roller project. No engine, No transmission, ignition system. Current registration paperwork included. Being sold as is, without warranty.
I bought this wagon as a drag only car, but have done some work to make it streetable. I have driven it on the street and used it as a test mule for a couple different engine trans combos. The work I have done includes installing a complete factory wiring harness front to rear, steering column, and dashboard so that all lights work. I also installed a new stock fuel tank and sender. I put 4 new wheel cylinders and replaced some lines to make sure the brakes were good. I have driven as recently as September 24,2018. Engine and trans are being pulled this week.
BODY/CHASSIS
The body is decent and not a rot bucket. The front floor pans will need replacement because it sat outside with the vent and passenger window open for a long time and the carpets were still in it. The rest of the floors are solid. The front fenders are fiberglass as well as the hood. The rear doors open from the outside but are gutted with no regulators or inner shell. I have a set of 4 rusty doors that I will include if wanted for parts. The drivers front door has a little rust out on the inner corner and the pass side has been changed with a rust free door. Both front doors have working windows. The tailgate is a working manual window. The rear wheel openinings are trimmed at the front edge. All glass is good. Paint is poor. The ignition key will work in the tailgate but not the doors. No heating system or wipers.
I believe all chassis work was done by Global West in Ca. The chassis is very nice and solid. The rear frame rails were narrowed with the stock lower rear suspension mounting points moved inboard. The 12 bolt rear was also narrowed the same amount to be able to use the original style 4 control arms, Which I have since reinstalled. The rear is also setup for ladder bar suspension which was the setup installed when I bought it. The ladder bar setup is included. The rear is a narrowed 12 bolt posi with 6.12 gears and an aluminum TA girdle cover. The rear also has strengthening braces and multiple shock mounts. The front suspension had a dropped drag link that I replaced with stock but is included. The front crossmember is notched to aid in oil pan removal. The roll cage is very nicely done with 12 mounting points. The drivers side has a swing out bar and also provisions for a window net. The cross bar is behind the dash and the hoop bars are very close to the A pillars which impressed me. There is a partial NHRA sticker on the cage but it will need to be certified which in my opinion should be no problem, might need upgrades. The seat belts are expired and will need replacement. It should be good for 8.50 .
There is very little interior. The original bench seat has a couple tears. a partial headliner, 4 door panels, and a couple rear panels. The rear wheel tubs have been moved in, decent not pro. The dash now has a factory cluster and harness installed.
The rear currenty has 15x10 Cragar wheels with Hoosier 29x 12.5 pro street radials. The wagon had 15x11.5 rims and 31x 10.5 slicks when I bought it. I will throw in the old slicks if wanted. I do not have the old rims. the fronts are Cragar 15x6 205/70r15. All 4 tires are very good.
What is included. Rolling body/chassis/with registrationnew stock installed and old original sumped fuel tank.4 extra parts doorsladder bar rear suspensionmodified steering linkagesteel front inner fendersfront bumper, bentaluminum radiatorold slickscable driven tachometer and cup gaugesHooker Super Comp sbc headers have a small patch on one tube and exhaust with mufflers to rear axlesome extra interior trim from a parts car
All the hard work is done.
This wagon is really interesting and I wish I knew more history. There is a round hole in the drivers rear quarter where the fuel fill was located, I moved it back to the original location. The original cowl vent was chromed. Paint is poor. The body has a lot of different paint layers and is cracking and chipping. There is the original mist blue, White, tan, candy orange, candy red, green, candy gold. Who knows, it may have been an old stock eliminator or super stock car. This car would make a very cool vintage drag car or even a gasser. Maybe even pro street or grudge race car.
This car is located in Warwick, Rhode Island. The buyer is responsible for all transportation arrangements and costs. This is an auction. If you win it you own it for that price. Please ask all questions before bidding. Not interested in trades. Cash or bank transfer only. Reserve is low and very fair. I can store the vehicle outdoors for a short time if needed.
