Combine this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette convertible's dramatic, third generation styling with its enhanced, powerful drivetrain and strong, road-ready running condition and you have an iconic, open air ride that's a blast to drive and will attract plenty of attention. The engine under the hood is only about 8500 miles past its rebuild, and when it comes to iconic convertible classics, a Corvette drop top is about as cool as they come. The purple metallic paint on... this '70 carries some serious visual impact on its own and with the chameleon stripes on its hood and tail, this 'Vette will no doubt turn its fair share of heads on the road. Chevy really upped the flash quotient on its third generation of Corvettes, adding length between windshield and nose, as well as flowing fenders. The gill-like vents on both the front grille and fenders were signature styling hallmarks and with this specimen's strong alignment, you can really appreciate just how much of an impact this Chevy must have made when it greeted the public. Nearly five decades later, its sturdy steel foundation has served it well - you'll find no sagging, and the lines surrounding the doors, hood and deck lid are tight and uniform. For those times when you find yourself behind the wheel of this open-air icon when the weather takes a turn, there's a manual convertible top on hand for protection. It looks to have been recently installed, sporting a nice, clear rear window, and its tan color is a welcome change from the norm. The tan interior is a definite strong suit. The signature bucket seats show some minor wear, but there aren't any serious wear spots on their leather surfaces and they still have plenty of padding for comfort. They straddle a center console that's in outright nice shape, providing some welcome interior storage, as well as a convenient place to rest an elbow while driving. Just beyond the woodgrain steering wheel, the dash area also presents very well. Corvettes of this era featured awesome, aeronautically-inspired instrumentation and the array of clean gauges spanning the instrument cluster and extending over the console are able representatives of this styling element as they sit under a fresh-looking dash pad that shows no signs of oxidation or tearing. This '70 was plumbed for factory air conditioning, a fairly uncommon option back in its day, and a compressor sits in place under the hood, so with a little attention this welcome feature can be brought back online. If you're looking for road-readiness that won't require any additional tweaks to prepare for action on the asphalt, this Corvette moves to the front of the line. Its 350 cubic inch V8 (believed to be the original) is in top form - it's been bored out and received roller rockers while being rebuilt to LT-1 specs. The 4 speed manual transmission makes for a very engaging drive and just a slight tap on the accelerator is all it takes to let you know this is one very strong powerplant and the exhaust note it sends out of its headers sounds great. It sits in a very clean engine bay with its chrome Chevy valve covers and properly-badged matching air cleaner, surrounded by fresh looking hoses and components that look like they've been recently steam cleaned. At a time when other manufacturers limited disc brakes to the front end, Chevy put power disc brakes at all four corners to provide this Corvette with dependable stopping ability as it cruises on its set of 15" Legend Series wheels outfitted with Cooper Cobra GT tires. The road beckons and this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is poised to answer. Call today!
