Still proudly wearing its factory correct shade of paint, and sporting a drivetrain that continues to perform with confidence-inspiring smoothness, this 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will afford a classic car enthusiast the chance to own a bona fide, strong running and street ready Z/28 - not just a rebadged copy - at an affordable price. It's also a car that stands as proof of Chevy's commitment to stick to its guns and continue to offer a generously sized V8 at... a time when some other manufacturers were scurrying toward the exits as far as performance cars were concerned, due to the oil shortages of the era. Clad in its original camel metallic color, this Chevy features some distinctive styling cues to set it apart from previous model years. We tend to think of front and rear bumpers that match the rest of the car as the rule rather than the exception, but prior to '78 they had never appeared on a Camaro. The low-profile hood scoop also debuted this very year, and while it was originally added for cosmetics, the specimen you see here takes the feature one step further, as it's free-flowing and functional to bring cold, condensed air to the air cleaner. While they're both features added before the car hit the road for the first time, those contrasting black front grille and headlight housings and the rear spoiler give this Camaro a cool, aftermarket look. It's an undeniably sporty looking car, with an aerodynamic, wedge shape and wide track that confer a sense of agility. The tan cloth and vinyl interior has been left in its original state and features a pair of buckets up front that, while showing some wear, still have years of service left in them, as they're well-padded and comfortable. This is an interior you can easily picture yourself in as you and your crew hit the road for some worry-free good times. The dash area sports a textured silver instrument cluster that features the original, still easily readable gauges, and its dash pad sitting above is impressively straight and free of cracks. With the Camaro's "performance-centric" reputation, it's both a welcome and fitting sight to see a manual shifter positioned on the transmission tunnel in place of the more customary automatic counterpart for a more involved driving experience. Sitting front and center in the dash, a Panasonic AM/FM/cassette player powers a set of speakers that includes an aftermarket pair in the doors. In back, you'll find a surprisingly tidy trunk area, with a spare still carrying plenty of tread securely stowed inside. The original 350 cubic inch V8 sits under the hood and it's running great, emitting a deep rumbling tone out of its dual exhausts to let you know that this Chevy classic is ready for you to climb in and start driving as soon as it's back home. The engine has received recent attention to bring it up to its current top form and carries a 4-barrel carb, matching matte black air cleaner and valve covers, and a chrome intake manifold to go along with its pair of aftermarket headers. This is an easy driver, as well, as it features power steering to go along with power brakes, with discs in front. This '70s era version of the muscle car sits on a set of 15" stock Z/28 rims that are outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A radials.
