Equal parts form and function, this 1965 Chevrolet El Camino was part of a new generation offered to the American public after its predecessors from a few years before had been marketed largely as low-profile work trucks. Chevy wasn't about to make that mistake again, so the similarity between El Caminos of this generation and the universally revered Chevelle of the same era is no accident. When the Chevelle got a facelift this very year, Chevy did the same with... its El Camino, and took the extra step of going back to offering a high-performance engine option, in order to reinforce the notion that the El Camino is, in fact, clearly a muscle car with appreciable hauling capacity built in. Decked out in an unassuming white paint job, this car confers a sense of road-readiness that's evident right away. Its bumpers, both fore and aft, are clean and straight, there's new glass on all four sides of the cabin, its badging is totally intact and the pronounced stretch of chrome trim around the bed in back is looking good, as well. Appearing very well-aligned and featuring nice, uniform gaps between body panels, the doors open and shut smoothly. The 1965 model features a more pronounced V-shape on its front end than its counterparts produced just one year earlier, giving it a look that's both thoroughly vintage and yet vital at the same time. The result of Chevy's efforts to prove this model's appeal to the performance car audience was obviously successful, as their enthusiasm was clearly reflected in markedly increased sales. There's a very impressive and detailed red interior waiting inside. The bench seat has a great texture to it and shows virtually no signs of wear and the door panels on both sides are very well fitted, sitting flush and grime free. The dash area will no doubt grab your attention right away. It's an eye-catching expanse of shiny, pit-free chrome against a backdrop of red and it houses a set of Dakota digital gauges to monitor all your mechanical functions. Just to the right, a vintage-look AM/FM/cassette system, sporting the signature Chevy bowtie in its center, stands at the ready to provide your own personal cruising soundtrack, while just a little lower, a Vintage Air climate control has been installed to keep you and your passengers nice and comfortable. An expanse of clean, matching red carpet runs underneath, ornamented by a set of Chevy floor mats that look as if they've yet to see much in the way of foot traffic. In back, the bed area remains in good shape, sporting no obvious dings and lined with a durable, dark-colored mat. The drivetrain on this El Camino has clearly been configured for hassle-free, high performance driving, with a Chevy ZZ4 V8 engine sitting under the hood as its foundation. Having only logged about 10,000 miles, it's essentially just now broken in, starting right up and running smoothly. It's paired with a Muncie M20 4 speed manual transmission and, having benefitted from a new flywheel, clutch and throwout bearings, the entire drivetrain is performing optimally. Disc brakes having been installed on all four corners, so you'll certainly benefit from stopping power otherwise unattainable when this Chevy was in stock form. This revolutionary vintage vehicle sits with a great, aggressive incline on a set of 15" Cragar rims, outfitted with BF Goodrich Silvertown radials.
