There have been many great Corvettes built over the years; but, for those who share Zora Arkus Duntov’s vision of the Corvette as world class sports car, there is none better then the 1970-1972 LT-1 Corvette. This is the Corvette which offers big block acceleration without compromising small block balance and handling prowess. With a high winding small block 350ci engine and a 4-Speed manual transmission to run through the gears, the LT-1 Corvettes offer neck-snapping acceleration and take the corners with the best European sports cars. This is a Corvette for the enthusiast who really appreciates a very fast classic Corvette.
To achieve it’s legendary performance, the 1970-1972 LT-1 used some of the best internal engine parts GM ever made. A solid lifter motor featuring a forged steel crankshaft, 4-bolt main block, impact extruded pistons, high-lift camshaft, low restriction exhaust, aluminum intake manifold, 4-barrel 800 cfm Holley carburetor, and finned aluminum valve covers. Mated with the required Muncie 4-Speed, these mechanical gems produced sounds and a driving experience never to be experienced again in a production car. The 1970-1972 LT-! marked the end of an era. It was the last solid lifter V8 produced by GM.
Aside from its incredible performance characteristics, a “real deal” documented 1970-1972 LT-1 Corvette is a “Blue Chip” investment grade Corvette due to its rarity. The LT-1 option was only available in 1970, 1971, and 1972. The 1972 Elkhart Green LT1 convertible, with factory air conditioning, is the rarest of the rare; since, only 240 LT1 Corvettes out of the three year production of 4,977 received the C60 option of air conditioning. Since convertibles were less then 32% of the production of the 1972 model year, we can extrapolate and estimate that this air conditioned convertible is perhaps 1 of 75 Corvettes built as 1972 air conditioned LT1 convertibles. If you want something having all the qualities of a investment grade automobile ( high performance, style, nationally recognized judging awards, documentation and rarity) this Corvette has it all.
The 1972 Elkhart Green LT1 convertible, with factory air conditioning and 52,00 miles, being offered for sale is highly original - un-restored, with the exception of a high quality repaint. This is the 1972 Corvette built by the St. Louis Corvette Assembly Plant not a restorer’s shop and comes with Power Steering, Power Brakes, Deluxe Interior, and a Tilt-Telescopic Steering column. An NCRS Regional Top Flight Award was earned in 2006 and a National Top Flight in 2007. The car has excellent documentation including a Sales Invoice, Purchase Agreement, original Warranty Booklet, with Protect-O-Plate, and a Corvette Order Copy (tank sheet).
The Elkhart Green 1972 LT-1 convertible, with factory air conditioning, being offered for sale here is quite simply one of the nicest, if not the nicest, highly original and in excellent condition examples to be found today. Here is an opportunity for the discriminating Corvette buyer who wants the “best of the best” and will be happy with no less.
