1966 Chevrolet Caprice SS w/console guages Additional Info:
Gotta let "MY BABY" go... !! This is a very rare '66 Caprice Sport Coupe.(SC). Not many know about this model because it was only produced in 66. The Impala was a fastback and the Caprice was more of a notch top. The base Caprice 2dr was built on the Impala convertible body, but the Sport Coupe option was built on the Impala SS convertible body and frame..just with a hardtop....different springs, shocks, and suspension than the base Impala or Caprice. The interior is SS with the console, gauges and bucket seats. This has the optional "Comfortron" a/c option which the desired temperature is on a numeric dial...later used on the Cadillacs until the 80's. The a/c was working before the engine compressor was removed...all other a/c parts remain intact. The radio is factory AM/FM Stereo MultiPlex option. In the SC, the controls are mounted in the lid of the console and fully functonal.I have never seen another one. Also the original tissue dispenser is still mounted under the glove compartment. The paint and body work were all done at a pro-shop.....super white base with blue pearl sprayed over it before the clear coat. The original engine was toasted by the prior owners wife..the a/c in florida traffic thing. I replaced it with a 69 'Vette 350 original long block bored 40 over, balanced and blueprinted..double hump heads, roller cam, MSD 6AL w/distributor. March pulley system w/serpentine belt. Holley 770 on a AirGap and Hookers. Edelbrock Elite tall aluminum valve covers The transmission is a B&M 350 w/a B&M Trans cooler. The 12-Bolt rear end was stripped to the bare housing...everything was replaced...including a new Eaton Posi unit and 342 gears.c.The front end has been totally rebuilt..ball joints, bushings etc....NOW... THE NOT SO GOOD PART....After losing my job,A friend let me use his carpet warehouse for storage for a couple of years, until he sold the business. The only place left for me was in a friends yard...and that's where it's been for the last 3 years or so. It needs to be totally re-wired and no after market harness was available the last time /i checked. I had been able to start and run it till about a year ago. ...maybe bad gas, fuel pump, electrical ??....and I haven't been able to try to get it running since then....It will still turn over.. The exterior is just dirty for the most part...pine pollen mold, but I did notice a little bit of bubbling around the LF quarter panel..rear bumper chrome is peeling, front headlight bucket is loose. The interior is in fair shape...top of dash is cracked,no rips in seats, headliner or carpet...dirty from sitting. Tires were New BFG TA's about 3 mo. before I lost my job....235-70-15 F & 275-70-15 R on rallye wheels w/trim rings and center caps. The drive train has about 5 to 6 k miles on it from weekend car shows and pleasure cruises. The speedometer works but isn't accurate because of the rear-end gear and transmission change....I put the best of everything in this car because I was never going to sell it, but now I've had to realize the time has come and it's a very sad time for me.... All of the hard (expensive) things are done. It's not going to be that hard (expensive) for the right person to bring this car back to where it was...or even better. FIRST..If you don't have the money, DON'T BID. !!! My reserve is about 20% of the appraised value of the car in good condition so DON'T ASK. I'll do my best to answer all questions but I'm a truck driver and my response time may be a day or two.... eight six three, 397 forty six 86 might work better. Leave a msg. and I'll return your call in the evening. If you are the winning bidde, YOU OWN THE CAR. I'm already having SELLERS REMORSE, so bid ONLY IF YOU WANT THE CAR. I have described the car in good faith to give potential buyers a accurate picture of the condition of "MY BABY",but it shouldn't be taken as a total list of it's condition. There may be minor flaws that I have not listed that may exist, but I have sincerely tried to describe the most important pro's and cons to enable you to bid with confidence knowing that there won't be any regrets with this classic Chevy. This vehicle sold AS IS, WHERE IS. No warranty expressed or implied.
