SUMMARY
The beneficiary of a professional, body-off restoration that was completed in 2011As owners of classic cars, we're all nostalgic people. But as unique as old cars are, and as romantic as past times seem to be, there's no denying the positive effects of technology. For instance, a modern smart phone that connects you to the world in the blink of an eye is much better than some old rotary unit that's cord-bound to the wall. And you'll probably agree that a high definition, flat-screen TV is much more entertaining than a heavy tube that's made of shadows and ghostly figures. So, what's a classic car lover to do when they're torn between golden era style and modern car technology? They take a good, long look at this killer Corvette roadster! Combining classic Chevy form with reliable LS1 power, a proven SRIII chassis and a leather-lined interior, this awesome C2 is a ground-up build that mixes the best aspects of yesterday with the best advancements of today. If you're in the market for a solid collectable that's comfortable, fast, reliable and absolutely stunning, this no-compromise Vette is your next ride!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Not completely devoid of character, like so many traditional, era-correct restorations, this road-ready roadster is an exhilarating combination of retro glitz and modern glam. Appearing both fresh and timeless, its Victory Red paint reflects an excellent shine that literally glows when crouched under the sun. That liquid-smooth 2-stage covers a super clean body, which was massaged into shape by Harbor Vette Restoration of Erie, Pennsylvania. That body's razor-sharp lines display no sign of botched repairs or historic damage. And today, this Sting Ray rolls as one stunning, arrow-straight showpiece that has no gremlins, suffers no thin spots and displays a level of finish that's worlds above assembly line fodder.
The great thing about building a pro-touring C2 is: the aggressive look most enthusiasts strive for is pretty much standard factory fare. At the front of this striking Sting Ray, a stainless, body-width grille is caged between red, white and black cross-flags, chrome-trimmed parking lamps and traditional 'razor blade' bumpers. Above that grille, an aggressive Stinger Hood frames a Pearl White stripe. Behind that hood, stainless wipers, bright trim and weather-free canvas shape clean, factory-tint glass. Below that glass, simple heat extractors lead chrome door handles, trademark bowtie mirrors and correct rocker trim. And behind those guards, dual-mode tail lamps reflect an ornate fuel filler, a familiar "Corvette STING RAY" emblem, a polished tag frame and two more 'razor blade' bumpers.
ENGINE
Take a look under the hood and you'll find 5.7 liters of LS1 V8 that creates over 300 horsepower! Straight from the factory, this fully sorted mill combines a sturdy aluminum block with lightweight aluminum heads, coil-near-plug ignition and aluminum, flat-top pistons to create razor-sharp throttle response and a torque band that's as wide as Texas. At the front of the engine, billet pulleys spin a fresh alternator and coated AC compressor at the sides of a polished K&N filter. Once air enters that cone, it flows through a factory-spec throttle body to a composite intake, which is bolted down over completely stock internals. High octane fossils are provided by GM electronic fuel injection. Sparks are sequenced through fresh AC Delco plug wires. Spent gases float through traditional GM manifolds. And cooling comes courtesy of a beefy radiator that's fitted with two electric puller fans. Aesthetically, both the cast aluminum mill and its assortment of bright accessories seem right at home inside their smooth, Satin Black frame. And details like stainless hardware, a CPP brake booster and fifth-generation Corvette rail covers ensure this Chevy looks every bit as good as it runs.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Park this Corvette on a lift and you'll find a sturdy SRIII Motorsports chassis that's bolted to clean, Satin Black floor tubs. Behind the stout LS1, a tough Tremec 5-speed twists torque to a rugged Dana 44 third member. That first-class drivetrain rolls on a fourth-generation Corvette independent suspension that follows aluminum control arms with coil-over-shocks and familiar Vette Brake & Products strut rods. Turns come courtesy of modern power rack-and-pinion steering. Smooth and solid stops are provided by four power-assisted calipers, two from Baer and two from GM, which clamp a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Exhaust rolls from the previously mentioned tubes to chambered and shielded side pipes. And power flows through chromed C5 Z06-style wheels, which spin 245/45ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sports.
INTERIOR
Open the car's tossable doors and you'll find a plush leather interior that's founded on fresh black carpet and stylish, Corvette-branded floor mats. Seating comes courtesy of correct buckets, which anchor factory headrests between fresh lap belts and a small console that's centered on a traditional-style shifter. From the driver's perch, a black dash hangs direct-fit audio beneath fully rebuilt telemetry and controls for modern air conditioning. At the edges of that dash, vivid door panels hang bright stainless trim in front of factory power windows. In front of the driver, a wood-rimmed steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a carpeted storage nook hides crisp Rockford Fosgate speakers.
