SUMMARY
The beneficiary of a detailed, body-off restoration that was completed in late 2016If you're a fan of style, speed and swagger, you simply can't go wrong with the legendary Corvette. One of the icons that practically defined the golden age of Detroit, Chevy's beloved sports car has become some of the best-selling muscle of all time. Not surprisingly, demand for these cornerstone classics continues to be strong. And in the second half of 2016, we shipped TWENTY-ONE awesome Vettes to twenty-one very satisfied owners. Pampered by the same enthusiast since 1974, this numbers-matching roadster just rolled out of a detailed, body-off restoration. With buff performance, seductive curves and requisite Rally Red on Black aesthetics, it's the perfect turn-key collector car for anyone who enjoys the hobby to its fullest. And if you're looking for an impressive set of wheels that'll roll straight out of the showroom and right in to the fast lane, it's your next classic!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Fresh out of a thorough restoration, this super cool C2 is a perfect blend of good craftsmanship and great attention to detail. With solid panels present and accounted for, the car was carefully stripped and lovingly whittled into better-than-new form. Once that comprehensive sculpting transitioned from the garage bay to the paint booth, a classic '60s profile was re-sprayed in correct Rally Red base. When that pigment dried, a tough coat of clear was buffed to a clean and glossy shine. And today, officially unleashed as the epitome of old school American style, this exclusive Sting Ray is one seriously cool head turner that can drop jaws just as easily as it can win trophies.
With its timeless proportions and sinuous panels, the second-generation Corvette is an inherently attractive design. At the front of this old school street fighter, bullet-style marker lights, mirrored bumpers and a red, white and black cross-flag emblem cage a stainless egg crate grille. Behind that grille, a '66-exclusive big block hood flows to satin wipers which, along with polished stainless trim, frame factory-tint glass and a White vinyl top. At the sides of that greenhouse, vertical scallops ride amid traditional door handles, a classy bowtie mirror, rowdy side-pipes and prominent "427 TURBO-JET" emblems. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed, dual-mode tail lamps illuminate a chrome-trimmed fuel filler and correct Sting Ray emblem above a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and two more mirrored bumpers.
ENGINE
Tilt the car's hood and you'll find a numbers-matching 427 that backs a correct "IL" suffix stamp and matching 118791 partial VIN with a correct 3869942 casting number. Fully overhauled in 1983, that 390 horsepower big block currently sports about 2,000 miles. At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, a familiar Holley carburetor rides between a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner and a bright stainless fuel line. Below that carb, a color-keyed intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture in to tough, cast iron heads, which are capped by stamped and painted valve covers. When the juice hits the cylinders, reliable, chrome-capped ignition sparks fresh, stainless-sleeved wires while a stock cam and rotating assembly push spent gases through fully restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling for that fire is provided by a beefy radiator, which hangs in front of pliable GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And, aesthetically, this Chevy's tidy engine compartment is exceptionally well done, framing a correct alternator, a rebuilt master cylinder and a reproduction Delco battery in clean, Satin Black surfacing.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Not surprisingly, someone spent a lot of time carefully restoring the bottom of this exclusive Vette. And, given the car has likely traveled mere break-in miles since it rolled out of the shop, everything is clean, fresh and virtually weather-free. Behind the awesome big block, a tough Muncie 4-speed twists a factory rear end that's branded with a correct "AU" prefix and plausible March (3) 28th (28), 1966 (66) build stamp. Turns come courtesy of standard manual steering. Four disc brakes provide solid, confident stops. And all that reliable hardware rolls on painted steel wheels that spin 7.75-15 Goodyear Power Cushion goldlines around polished spinner hub caps.
INTERIOR
The Standard Black interior hiding behind this Corvette's small doors illustrates the true, no frills intentions of Chevrolet's preeminent track beast. Its pleated vinyl seats look and feel fantastic. In front of those seats, a monochromatic dash, which exhibits no signs of cracking or peeling, hangs a correct Delco AM/FM radio between rebuilt telemetry and an aluminum-trimmed glovebox. At the base of that dash, a stainless-trimmed console frames a chrome shifter. That seat, dash and console trifecta is completely framed by fade-free carpet and weather-free door panels. And in front of the driver, a stylish steering wheel laps a bright Corvette insignia.
