Incredibly rare and significant 1969 Baldwin Motion Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Phase III GT in Gold (originally Gold color from Motion) over Black with just 46,160 miles. This is 1 of just 10 Phase III GT cars built by Joel Rosen, aka, Mr. Motion, of Motion Performance for Baldwin Chevrolet in Long Island, NY between 1969 and 1971. This unique car has been featured in several magazine articles including Hi-Performance CARS in April 1970, on the cover of Speed and Supercar in June 1970, Vette in 1992, cover of Corvette Fever in Feb 2005, and Chevy Rumble in Jan 2005.
Marty Schorr, a Motion historian, was editor of Cars Magazine in this era and author of the book, Motion Performance: Tales of a Muscle Car Builder, described the Phase III GT as a specific model which came stock with fastback rear window, carpeted stowage area, flared fenders, outside exhaust, specific suspension, front end with exposed headlights, unique taillight treatment, quick-fill fuel cap, choice of small- or big-block engine, and a host of detail components." He also said no two GT models were exactly alike.
From the factory, this car came equipped with the side exhaust, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and AM/FM radio. The engine is original, complete with Motion valve covers, an Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carburetor, and a Fly's Eye air cleaner. An original Muncie M21 4-speed transmission handles the gearing. This is the only Phase III GT with Shelby GT side scoops as well. Other interesting features include the recessed headlights, functional scooped hood, side louvers, Motion traction bar, Motion slotted wheels with tapered lug nuts, larger Mickey Thompson tires as it appeared in early magazine photos, 427 emblems, and slit taillights.
This car's history has been documented through many written articles. The majority of its life was spent in the ownership of one individual spanning 33 years. It is presented in its original color configuration and as equipped since its earliest days. This is a highly unusual opportunity to add a rare and historically significant Corvette to your collection. Of the 10 original Baldwin-Motion Phase III GT Corvettes, only about 6 are known to survive.
