What a great pick-up truck! This truck has traveled only about 39,100 miles since. With only one previous owner, this 1979 C-10 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe has a great running 250 6 Cylinder and a tight floor mounted 4 Speed manual (with granny low). As you would expect, everything about the truck is tight and solid and works just as it should. All of the gauges work properly, although the speedometer is not accurate while the odometer seems right on. It’s got great oil pressure and always starts right up, warm or cold. You’ll hear lifters tapping when it’s cold and when at idle. The brakes are perfect and all of the light work just like they should. The exhaust system is nearly new. It truly drives like a “new” 1979 Chevy truck.
This truck was purchased new by the city of Mountain home, Idaho, and likely never left Mountain Home until we brought it to Western Oregon. All maintenance was done like clockwork, spending tax dollars without reserve. It was ordered in the color “Saddle Brown”, and then promptly repainted white to match the colors of the city vehicles (white with a brown interior). It still wears that white repaint. The body and trim is nearly perfect. There is no damage and absolutely no rust in the body, doors, floors, fenders – anywhere (baring the expected surface rust in a few places on the floor of the bed, as pictured). The bottoms of the doors are as clean as the interior panels. There is a small ding in the tailgate (pictured). Even the metal of the bed is nearly flawless. The tailgate and tops of the bed are covered in diamond plate. The brown on the bed floor is the original paint.
Underneath, the truck is just about as clean as the body! The engine compartment wears its original paint, stickers and decals, just as it should, as well as both the factory plastic air intake tube and the factory tin heat riser tube. Fender wells are clean and solid in and out. There is no caked on dirt, grease or corrosion anywhere, nor are there signs of any past or active leaking of any of the fluids. The tires are brand new. There is a class A hitch properly mounted to the rear frame, with good working wiring nearby. I doubt you’ll find a truck like this more clean or original in anywhere near this condition.
The interior looks very good, although the dash cap is very cracked and is covered with an aftermarket cover. The seat was reupholstered by the city of Mountain Home – it was ordered with a vinyl seat, but then promptly recovered with cloth… There is a hole in the floor mat right where your heal will rest while driving. The metal headliner is perfect, and both sun visors are intact. The plastic on the door panels is dry and somewhat faded, but complete and reasonably solid, as you would expect. It has an aftermarket 8-track stereo which turns on but makes no sound. All of the glass is original and good, and the weather stripping and seals all seem to be very acceptable. The original owner’s manual is in the glove box. The interior shows no signs of having been smoked in.
A complete inspection was completed by an independent, 3rd party shop, and the inspection form is attached. You’ll see that the inspection was very thorough, and that the truck passed with flying colors. There were no mechanical issues noted and nothing out of order. The inspector recommended an oil change (as he was unaware of the most recent oil change, about 100 miles ago), a wheel bearing service (as maintenance), and possibly a new battery. I’ve never had this one go dead on me, but he stated that the battery in the truck is in the latter half of its life.
Whether you are looking for a nearly “new” older truck for work or play, or whether you are looking for a perfect start to you hot rod truck project, you’ll not find anything better anywhere near this price range!
