We are a small family owned and operated classic corvette business in Southwest Missouri. We have been buying and sellingnice examples like this one since 1988. We strive to find the very good ones and nice color combinations just like this 1979. Red on Red you may think is easily found, however it is not. Most red corvettes were ordered with black interior and another color than the red. Personally to me it doesn't get much better than this color combination. This particular corvette we acquired recently from the same owner since 1983. This corvette has been in Illinois for its entire life and at that time in 1983 the car had only 9,100 miles. Every receipt that was done on this corvette for service and routine maintenance was kept and all put into a nice three ring binder that goes with the sale of this car. It is impressive to look through all of that and I have the one photo shown of that paperwork. I do have the original sales brochure, original owners manual, a copy of the original dealer invoice, window sticker, odometer statement, copy of former owner title, and several other brochures that originally came with this car when new. The car does retain most of all its original parts but I did see where the shocks were replaced along with the alternator and some other minor things. It does still have the original exhaust system with catalytic converter and the mufflers are embossed with the L-48 on them, original GoodYear tires included but are no longer good to drive as one tire has separated, newer white lettered radial tires have been installed on the original rally wheels to drive on in the original size of 225/70R15, original engine and drivetrain, original spark plug wires that are date coded, original carburetor and complete air breather assembly, original exhaust manifolds with all shielding still in place, original headlight bulbs, and the list goes on. It has had the fluids recently changed including the rear end grease and anti-freeze coolant flush. Also a new heater core was installed back in 2015. So the maintenance was well kept up on this corvette and it does get started and driven regularly and not just left to set. The original spare tire and wheel are still underneath the car along with the original spare tire lock which are usually missing over the years. One of the nicest 1979 corvettes we have had in our business over all of these years. I would put this one up against any out there for sale or in a private collection.

PAINT, INTERIOR & CHASSIS OVERALL CONDITION:For the most part from what I have seen and from being around these original survivor models this corvette has theoriginal paint. The paint was not perfect back then and did not have the clear coat finishes that you see on the carsbeing built today. With that said, this one does have an extremely nice shine and shows well. The front and rear bumperson these cars were a different material and sometimes don't match up to the paint as well as they should. This oneI thought matches up great and even the optional spoilers match well. The bumpers do not have any cracks or stressplaces in them. actually still flexible and not stiff. This is probably from being stored right and inside most of its life. The car does have a few chips that have been touched up but nothing severe. The lower portions of the bodyand rocker moldings are nice with no major road rash so the car was not driven on gravel roads. The front parking grillassemblies and emblems are originals and still look nice and fresh even including the gas cap which is also an original. The window glass does not have any chips or real scratches that I have noticed and is original to the car. The t-topsfit nicely and the weatherstripping is very good. It does appear that the windshield pillar weatherstrips have been replacedon the passenger side at one time but does fit good. The headlights go up and down smoothly and all lights do workincluding the back-up lights. The license plate hardware is even original. The keys do work the door locks like theyare suppose to. Any touch ups that were ever done on this car where done right. No damage and original fenders withall bonding seams and strips still intact. Overall a strong # 2 condition inside and out.The interior is in very good shape. For the most part it doesn't get much better. The seats, carpeting, door panels and dashassembly are all original! There is no tears or excessive wear that I see. The door panels have no cracks or an evidence orrepairs, the steering wheel is near perfect with no fading or cracks, gauges all still look fresh with no fading, console and heaterand a/c controls are all in very nice shape, carpeting is original with no stains or dirty spots including the rear carpeting, interior trim moldings are all still fresh, once you see the interior you can tell it for sure has not been apart or messed with. The only thing we did install in the car was new floor mats as there were custom ones in it when we bought it and wanted to replace them with the correct style ones. I would rare the interior as a 2+ easily. The engine compartment and chassis for the most part like the rest of the car is untouched. No repainting on the engine. Original blue paint still on the intake and valve covers. The valve cover gaskets have been replaced at one time. Original air cleaner assembly, original brake booster with the nice original gold cad finish still visible, original wiring in excellent shape, no aftermarket parts and left all original for these 39 years. No real major corrosion, only little to no surface rust visible on some of the raw steel parts. The chassis is in very nice shape as well. Original inspection markings visible on the firewall, frame, and tie rod ends. No undercoating and no rust or even pitting on the frame and other steel parts. Amazing shape. Even the backing plates on the front and rear suspension still have that nice gold cad finish! The only thing if you wanted to make the car real fresh is repaint the oil pan as the factory did not spray much paint on this part of the engine as I have seen on almost all of these models I get in. I chose just to leave it alone and let the next owner do that if desired. Original exhaust system and catalytic converter still intact! No holes or rot on that system. The shocks have been replaced but there is a source in Kansas that you can purchase the correct ones if desired.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS TO THE 1979 MODEL YEAR:This was the last year to see the 140 mph speedometer as some very late 1979 models the 85 mph speedometer was phased in.The new "high back" seat style introduced in the 1978 pace car replicas was made standard equipment in 1979. Extensive use of plastic in the frame structure resulted in weight reduction of about twelve pounds per seat. The new seats had better side bolster support, and the backs folded at a higher point to permit easier rear storage access. Inertia locking mechanisms restrained the backs in sudden deceleration, negating the need for manual locks. Driver and passenger seat tracks were redesigned for an additional inch of forward travel. The 1979 fuel filler pipe was redesigned to make it more difficult to modify for leaded-fuel access.Output for both the base L-48 and optional L-82 engines increased by 5hp due to a new "open flow" muffler design. Also, adding the L-82's low restriction, dual-snorkel air intake to the base engine added another 5hp.In 1979, the previously optional AM-FM radio became standard equipment, and and illuminated visor-mirror combination became optional for the passenger side. The front and rear spoilers developed as part of the 1978 pace car package became 1979 options. Only year for this option. They were functional, decreasing drag by about 15% and increasing fuel economy by about a half-mile per gallon.Tungsten-halogen headlight beams were phased into 1979 production early in the production year for increased visibility. These replaced only the high-beam units.
