1988 Cadillac DeVille Prestige Package, Vogue Wheels/Tires Additional Info:
The last of the square Cadillacs, this one harkens back to Cadillac's glorious past. By the next model year (1989), all that was gone as the bodies got roundy like all the other cars on the road.
White leather is featured in this beautiful car. Exterior is red (maroon) with a white landau top in the rear. Original paint (though a sharp eye will see that one rear fender has been repainted at some point). This car has the dealer installed Prestige Package which included that top, a Rolls-Royce grille, real Vogue spoke wheels (not wheel covers), and gold trim. This showy dealer package even included a color-matched continental wheel for the back! I have that wheel and all brackets in my garage and of course it is included with the car.
The interior is white, as I said. Not beige. Gorgeous, snow white. Like Jackie Kennedy's purse. This is a gorgeous machine which turns heads wherever it goes. Only 139K original miles (I got the car eighteen years ago with just 65K on it).
Always garaged at my home in Southern California and, frankly, that is the reason I need to let it go. I just need that space now for another car. I cannot bear to park this beauty outside and so I'd rather it go to someone else who can appreciate and care for it from here.
It runs great (on recommended regular gas) and has recent, correct, Vogue whitewalls on it. These are the exact type and style of tires that were on this Cadillac of Cadillacs when it graced the showroom floor 30 years ago. Standard factory wheels on this car are 14-inch but with the Prestige Package this car's wheels are 15-inch. (Tire size is correctly calculated for accurate speedometer.)
The air conditioning has been expertly converted to use the new freon and works great. Smooth, quiet and powerful 4.5 engine uses (or loses) one quart of oil every 2500 miles. The car leaks a bit on the floor of the garage, as every car I've ever owned has done. I am experiencing some slipping in the transmission as the car goes into third gear and this, I think, is the car's most serious issue.
AM/FM radio cassette player works fine and plays tapes (I recently replaced the belt). The automatic antenna is not functioning and the antenna stays up all the time. Interior leather looks great but the front seats show cracking and wear. People into leather call that "character." Armrests on front doors are torn at the back edges. This is a common issue on this model. Rather than repair with some non-original upholstery, I opted to leave it alone. Interior is clean and fresh and still has the pleasant faint aroma of leather even after all these years. No smoking ever in this car.
Original leather-bound Owner's Manual and all records since my ownership are included, as are the Cadillac shop manual and body manual for this car. Original gold keys are included too, plus I added keyless entry and have one remote. One other thing I did was to add the front center armrest from a newer (1990) Cadillac. The 1988 armrest was just an armrest and did not open. This armrest looks about the same but opens for storage and has a swing-out cupholder.
Obviously, you can get a 1988 Cadillac for less than my price. But if you want the most gorgeous head-turner of a red & white Cadillac you're ever likely to see--well, here it is.
