The 1959 Cadillacs were the high point of the styling excesses of the 50s. This is a super rare and desirable car as they only built 975 Seville’s in 1959. This is the car to have if you want to feel like an instant celebrity… and speaking of celebrities, this one has a iconic star attached to it.
We here at MotoeXotica, are huge fans and love celebrity owned cars, just look at our inventory! That being said, this car has a great story that goes with it! This car was reputedly owned at one time by actress, Marilyn Monroe. On June 14th, 1960 George Barris of Barris Kustoms of Hollywood, CA painted this Cadillac a special Golden/bronze metallic to match one of actress Marilyn Monroe’s famous outfits. After the actress’ death in 1962, the car was acquired the brother of her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio, Vincent. he owned the car until 1965 when he sold it to a fan who retained ownership for close to forty years!
The 1959 Cadillac is remembered for its huge sharp tailfins with dual bullet tail lights, two distinctive rooflines and roof pillar configurations, new jewel-like grille patterns and matching deck lid beauty panels.. New mechanical items were a “scientifically engineered” drainage system and new shock absorbers. All Eldorados were characterized by a three-deck, jeweled, rear grille insert, but other trim and equipment features varied. The Seville and Biarritz models had the Eldorado name spelled out behind the front wheel opening and featured broad, full-length body sill highlights that curved over the rear fender profile and back along the upper beltline region.
Refinished in a deep Bronze metallic, (original color was Persian Sand, code 98) this coupe shows extremely well with only minor cracking visible upon close inspection. All the trim is present, complete and displays extremely well with normal wear. The front and rear chrome bumpers fit is extremely tight and finish is exquisite. The front and rear grill inserts mirror the same excellent finish. The car has a slight window tinting (EZ eye glass option) that compliments and completes the “elegant” appearance. The original 15-inch wheels represent well with only slight signs of marring.
Inside, the original rich Plum(code 58) front split seats and rear seats have wonderful appearance and condition and have been covered in plastic for protection. The matching plum door panels, carpet and dashboard are a continuation of the striking Bronze exterior of the car and look fantastic. All gauges have their correct appearance and function as originally designed. The originally equipped Cadillac steering wheel is in excellent normal wear condition and functions as designed. The heater and air conditioning function as designed, as well as the automatic headlight dimmer, cruise control, power seats, power windows and original equipment AM push button radio but currently the horn is inoperable.
This nicely represented Cadillac equipped with a Tri-powered 390cid OHV V8 cylinder engine, matted to a 4-speed Hydra-matic automatic transmission, air suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering and power brakes. The wheels are 15 inch steels with full chrome Cadillac hub caps with B.F. Goodrich wide whitewall tires.
Equipped with all the factory options available on this Tri-power ’59 Caddy, we think any “Gentleman would prefer this blonde”… GET OUT AND DRIVE!
