1988 Cadillac Allante Convertible with Immaculate LeatherVEHICLE DESCRIPTIONThe Allanté entered its first full year of production after being introduced in March 1987. Its styling, powertrain and features were essentially unchanged for 1988. A number of running changes did take place. These included a reconfiguring of the headrests and the inclusion of a power decklid pulldown as standard equipment. A new option for 1988 was a European-style analog instrument panel which could be ordered in lieu of the standard electronic cluster at no extra charge. Also new for 1988 were two new exterior colors-red and black.

The Allante is a two-door, two-seater roadster manufactured and marketed by Cadillac from 1987 until 1993, with roughly 21,000 units ever built over a seven-year production run.
Originally designed under the code name "Callisto", to compete with the Mercedes Benz SL and Jaguar XJS, the Allante featured a slightly modified variant of the 4.1 liter V8 used across Cadillac's model line.
The Allante is noted for an unusual production arrangement, where completed bodies - designed and manufactured in Italy by Pininfarina were shipped 4,600 mi (7,400 km) from Italy in specially equipped Boeing 747's, 56 at a time, to Cadillac's Detroit Hamtrack plant where they were mated with domestically manufactured chassis and engine assemblies.
