1968 Buick GS400 Additional Info:
Just in time for summer cruising. parades, and car show season, we are pleased to offer this beautiful, numbers matching 1968 Buick GS400 Convertible at low reserve auction. If you're looking for a car that will stand out from the endless crowd of Chevelles, Camaro's and Mustangs, this classic Buick muscle car is the way to do it.
This beautiful car is fresh from a nice frame-on restoration, and is without a doubt one of the nicest, most original, and highly optioned examples left of the only 2,454 GS400 convertibles that GM produced in 1968. This vehicle left the factory with;
Air Conditioning (converted to R-134a)
Tilt Steering w/ rally wheel
Power windows
Power Drivers seat
Power Convertible Top
Power Steering
Power Brakes
Full Length Console
Rally Wheels with original Buick knock-offs and stainless beauty rings
Courtesy Lighting package
AM/FM Radio (Still works great)
This car spent its entire life in dry north Texas with the last 25 years in storage, so unlike many of the convertibles sold from this era, this car retains 100% of its original, rust free body panels, floor boards, and trunk floor. The body was media blasted to bare metal, finished in beautiful PPG burgundy metallic basecoat / clearcoat, and polished to a brilliant shine. All body chrome is installed and shows well, as do the front and rear bumpers, with only a few nicks and imperfections to prove that they're original.
The numbers matching 400 cubic inch (340 hp, 440 ft lb torque) engine was removed, cleaned, and painted, and after a rebuild on the original quadrajet carburetor, it starts and runs like a dream. The only concession to the originality of the engine is an upgraded HEI distributor for drivability, however, the original points distributor will be provided with the car. With a nice idle and low rumble from the original dual exhaust manifolds with new FlowMaster mufflers, it sounds exactly like a muscle car should. The numbers matching 3 speed Super Turbine (TH400) automatic performs beautifully, with nearly imperceptible shifts. The car stops as well as it goes, with all new wheel cylinders, drum shoes, master cylinder, and power booster.
Nearly 50 years in the dry Texas heat was hard on the soft components, so the car received all new control arm bushings, sway bar end links and bushings, upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings, shock absorbers, body bushings, door seals, window seals (inner and outer) and trunk seal. 14" Grand Am Radial GT tires were mounted to the original Buick Rally rims, complete with the original beauty rings and Buick knock-offs.
The convertible top frame was removed and media blasted, then primed and painted with satin black acrylic urethane enamel before installing a beautiful new black vinyl top and window, along with all new top seals. The power top motor, cylinders, and hydraulic lines were also replaced with correct new components to ensure that the top goes up and down smoothly at the push of a button.
The interior was restored as well, with newly upholstered seat covers, door panels, and new carpet. The padded dash is in near-perfect condition, as is the original rally tilt steering wheel, dash panel, and full-length console.
The odometer is currently showing 56,117 miles, which the previous owner reported as actual mileage when we purchased it. Nothing found during the restoration indicated that this was inaccurate, all wear signs were consistent with a 56,000 mile car, and receipts found from the early '80s showed the car as having approximately 22,000 actual miles at that time. Given this information, the mileage is believed to be accurate, and is reflected on the title as actual mileage. However, in the interest of being completely honest, and since we have no absolute documentation showing the mileage is original, the car is presented and sold with unknown mileage.
While we have done our best to describe the car as accurately and honestly as possible, please keep in mind that this is a 48 year old vehicle, and like all classic cars, may have mechanical or cosmetic flaws or defects that were missed in the pictures or description. We strongly encourage you to have the vehicle inspected prior to bidding, and will work with you or your inspection agent to facilitate the inspection. However, all inspections must be completed prior to the auction ending, as all sales are final. Please contact us through eBay if you have any questions, or would like to see additional specific pictures.
The vehicle is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties, guarantees, or representations of any kind. Please be prepared to buy BEFORE you bid.
Due to issues in the past, Zero-feedback bidders need to contact us prior to bidding, otherwise your bid will be canceled.
Paypal will NOT be accepted except for the initial, non-refundable deposit of $1000, due within 48 hours of the auction ending. Full payment by cash or cashiers check / certified bank draft ONLY is required prior to the vehicle leaving our facility. All cashiers checks will be verified with the issuing bank prior to pickup. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer, however, we will assist your shipper with loading the car after funds have been verified.
Reserve is set at well below the valuation on this very rare Buick GS400 convertible, don't miss out on the opportunity to own this classic for well below appraised value. Good luck bidding, and thank you for looking.
