1970 Buick Riviera Additional Info:

1970 Buick Riviera - True Survivor, Second Owner, Low Mileage, Original Paint

For sale is a highly original 1970 Buick Riviera, a genuine survivor with just over 42,000 miles. I am the second owner, having purchased the car in 2015 with approximately 25,000 miles. It was originally sold new by Martin's Chevrolet/Buick in Kennebec, South Dakota, and comes with the original set of keys.

This Riviera retains its all-original paint and much of its factory components, making it an honest representation of a well-preserved classic. The body is solid with no rust holes, solid floors, and excellent panel fit. Doors open and close as new. The paint shows some age-related imperfections, including minor dings, scratches, light crazing, slight hail damage in a few areas, and road rash chips on the lower rear quarters and fender skirts from gravel road use by the original owner in rural South Dakota.

Interior: Clean and largely original, including carpet, headliner, and door panels. The driver's seat has some separation in the upholstery. The original steering wheel is present, with a fully functional horn and tilt mechanism. A new windshield has been installed, and weather stripping around the driver and passenger windows has been replaced. Most original bulbs, including all four T3 headlights, still work. GM floor mats, BF Goodrich tires have life left in them.

Mechanical Highlights:

  • Matching-numbers original 455 cubic inch V8 engine with recent maintenance including new oil pump, top end gaskets, timing chain and gears. (Note: minor front seal oil leak.)

  • Original Turbo 400 automatic transmission, recently rebuilt – shifts smoothly.

  • Extensive recent work completed for reliability:

    • New radiator, thermostat, belts, hoses

    • Pertronix electronic ignition upgrade (hidden under distributor cap)

    • New distributor cap, ignition wires, spark plugs

    • New front upper/lower control arm bushings, oversized front sway bar and end links

    • New rear sway bar and control arm bushings

    • New in-tank electric fuel pump and filter

    • Complete brake overhaul: new wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes all around; rear drums turned

    • New alternator and electronic voltage regulator

    • Recent shock absorbers all around, new rear springs

    • New vacuum lines and heater hoses

Upgrades (Reversible, Original Parts Included):

  • Carburetor swapped to a Demon 4-barrel with electric choke (original carb included)

  • Custom dual exhaust system with original-style mufflers, MagnaFlow stainless resonators

  • Correct chrome-plated Buick Rallye road wheels with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires

  • Modern audio: Custom Auto Sound Bluetooth radio in dash, floor-mounted subwoofer under seat, small mid-range speakers on dash – installed without permanent modifications; easily removable

  • Original Buick Sonomatic AM radio included

  • New Cruise Control with original-style turn signal stalk control

All removed original parts are included with the sale, such as: distributor cap, 1969-date-coded spark plug wires, Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, original spark plugs (from 1970), belts, voltage regulator, alternator, and more.

The car drives beautifully, handles well, and presents as a solid, preserved example of Buick's elegant personal luxury coupe. This is not a concours restoration but a true, low-mileage survivor ready to enjoy as-is or serve as an excellent base for further preservation.
