1972 Buick Skylark Additional Info:
1972 Buick Skylark 350 Sun Coupe Rare factory sunroof 350 CI V-8 engine 4-barrel carburetor TH350 automatic transmission Power steering Finished in Sunburst Yellow with Black vinyl top Vinyl bucket seat interior Center console Upgraded radio Full Climate control including AC 14x6 Buick Rally wheels BF Goodrich raised White letter tires The Sun Coupe package itself was available only on the Skylark 350 Sport Coupe. Produced only for a single model year,it is a very rare item indeed. Estimated only 1600-1800 were made. As mentioned, the sunroof is of the sliding, folding, accordion-like vinyl type--more often recognized on the Volkswagen Beetle/Bus. Surrounded by a color-matching custom vinyl top, the opening measures 42 x 50 inches when retracted. Unlike the electrically operated steel sunroof found on the Riviera and Electra 225 Sport coupe, this sunroof is operated manually. A chrome-plated combination handle/latch is located in the center of the forward edge--a twist and pull gets the job done swiftly, a lot faster than a convertible when rain threatens. You don't have to pull off the road and stop to do it, either. Your eyes will certainly notice more about the Sun Coupe than just its top. Gold-colored Sun Coupe script is positioned on the C-pillars. The boxed 350 emblem underneath accompanies the Skylark badge at the aft end of each rear quarter panel. Even more interesting is the aforementioned vinyl roof: Another option, it covers only 90 percent of the car, running from the windshield to the vicinity of the C-pillar. The paint stripe seen on this Sun Coupe was also an option, starting at the base of the A-pillar, running towards the rear along the top of each door, up the leading edge of the C-pillar and along the back edge of the vinyl top. The other options on this car, power steering, air conditioning, dual outside color keyed sport mirrors with drivers side remote, bucket seats, storage console and chrome Buick Road wheels. This car also has an aftermarket radio. This is a very nice driver car ready for fun in the sun and cruising!
