1970 Buick Electra 225 Convertible
The Buick Electra is a full-size luxury car manufactured and marketed by Buick from 1959 to 1990 over six generations - having been named after heiress and sculptor Electra Waggoner Biggs by her brother-in-law Harlow H. Curtice, former president of Buick and later president of General Motors.
For consignment a nice 1970 version of the Buick Electra. A few areas of body rust here and there, some interior flaws, but a fine-looking vehicle. Dust this car off, put some good gas in it, and you will be large and in charge in this 1970 piece of Detroit iron.
Exterior
As the consigner describes not in showroom condition, but an all original survivor. Fire red shows shiny and does have some areas of surface rusting particularly on the lower exterior door panels. Gaps are inconsistent and steel remains fairly straight. Chrome shows mostly shiny and in the very front Buick badge is missing on the nose of this car. A black convertible top is there but will need replacing due to some patching which leaks. The top is operational though. Fender skirts are dressing up the rear quarter and standard wheel covers are seen all around.
Interior
Red Leather covers the front split bench, and rear full bench. The condition is fair due to some tears which have opened up at the seams in front, and on the rear, there is a darker panel in the middle of the passenger side bench, as well as a patched hole. Carpet in front has gone missing, and in back is the original red that came with this car. Dash top is just a tad faded but shows no cracking. The dash front shows some crackle finish due to changes in temp on the lacquer covering. Gauges are clear, power top switch is a bit askew.
Drivetrain
The dusty original 455ci V8 with a single 4-barrel carburetor atop and a TH400 3-speed automatic on the rear sits in an unrestored engine bay. It should be noted this engine currently only runs on ether, possibly due to bad gas or a dire need for a tuneup.
Undercarriage
Invasive rear frame rust is noted, also floorpans, and trunk pan are rusted through and have inserts as a repair. Heavy surface rust is virtually covering every surface. It appears as though a new fuel tank is installed, and the muffler is not rusted so may have been replaced in the not so distant past. Invasive rust can also be found on the lower door panels on the inside fo each door.
Drive-Ability
This car is not drivable due to it only running on ether, so we were unable to test drive.
A barn find, possible parts car, or an ambitious frame off replacement restoration, and you will have her (or a version with her parts thereof) back on the road in no time!
