1974 Buick Riviera GS Stage 1 Additional Info:
this 74 Riviera Stage 1 GS was sold new in Oklahoma, it has the proper W in the VIN that denotes it as a true Stage 1 equipped car.there were 4,119 74 Riv GS built, and 1,698 Stage 1 74 Rivs.there are no figures on how many Rivs had both the GS and Stage 1 packages.for 1974 the Stage 1 was rated at 245 hp and 360 lb ft of torque - that is in new standard of net hp that came in 1972.in addition to the higher hp, the Stage 1 pkg also included a posi-traction axle with 3.23 gear ratio. I swapped the original 3.23 posi axle for a 3.42 axle from a 71 Riviera GS
I bought it in 2008 and imported it to Canada.in order to register it, it had to pass a strict inspection and everything had to be as newodo now reads 42k, I assume its 142k but I have no way of knowing for sure.
It runs & drives like a 42k car..it was originally a white car but had a complete color change many years ago before i bought it to a Cadillac brick red.the original motor had been replaced with a warranty block years ago, this was rebuilt about 10 years ago.it was painted metallic pearl red in 2012.
on cloudy days the paint appears darker, when the sun is on the car the paint glows like it is on fire.it is loaded with options, including some that were added by the original owner whose family kept the car until around 2010.it has a power moonroof that wasn't available in 74 but was installed by the original owner in the late 1970s at probably great expense.
other options include pw, p locks, p trunk, p drivers bucket seat, cruise, tilt, amfm 8 track (not hooked up),I also upgraded the front and rear sway bars to thicker ones, the front end is rebuilt, the rebuilt trans has a shift kit, and new heavy duty rear coil springs were installed as well asnew brakes u-joints mounts etc.It has :rare dual snorkel Grand Sport air filter capdigital tach in place of the clock (a clock will come with the car)Comfort Grip Rally steering wheelfender top light monitorscornering lightsdual remote sport mirrorsnew door, window and trunk rubber weatherstrip seals inc door handle gaskets - trim was removed when car was painted.4 note "locomotive" horn
console shift
I dont know if there is a working power antenna or not, Ive never checked if there is one in the fender.
the headliner and door armrests have been redone in a much higher quality material than originalupgraded lower door panel trim & courtesy lightsnew sunroof seals and drain tubesnew door pinsnew fan clutch
a/c changed to 134a, prob needs a recharge4 Michelin whitewalls on buick chrome wheelsMichelin spare tire, never been on grounddual exhaust has a nice rumblethis car runs and drives very well, and thanks to the thicker front & rear sway bars it corners surprisingly flat.there is no rust, some rust repair was done ahead of the rear wheels - new metal was installed.the turn signal lever has snapped, a replacement has been installed but needs to have the wiring for the cruise control run through the steering column.the wiper switch is loose in the dash, and the door mirror adjustment levers are stiff.the car needs some upholstery work and some paint touchup on the lower dash to bring it to the next level and i would replace the carpets.A set of new trunk boards is included.
I would not hesitate to drive it from coast to coast
