1986 BMW 3-Series Additional Info:
E30 series BMW 5-speed coupe, with the low-revving, high-torque straight six engine.
A solid restoration candidate, needs more than just a little TLC to really shine again. Could also be a good teenager's learner s***box with only minor repairs.
Runs, drives, and is registered. Inspection sticker just expired. Test drives available for local buyers.
This car is undeniably old, but still all kinds of fun to drive. In the 80s, this was the car everyone wanted, and this was the top end model of its year.
The good:
Still corners like it's on rails.
Engine still pulls strongly and smoothly.
Transmission still shifts smoothly in all gears.
Clutch does not slip.
New front tires, fuel line, rear brakes last year.
Brand new Duralast battery.
Sunroof tilts and slides, and does not leak.
Remaining glass is in good shape.
Cabin airflow controls still work.
Heat is strong and dry.
The bad:
Passenger door won't unlock.
Passenger window won't go down (motor issue?)
There's a vibration somewhere behind me when stepping on it in 2nd only.
The driver's seat has had it.
The aftermarket radio works when it wants to.
A/C is long dead.
Weird 1980's computer thingy only partly works.
Mild rattle when the clutch is pressed in (throwout bearing?)
Rear tires are old, but not worn.
Odometer stopped at 266K years ago.
Loose wire in the left rear directional.
The ugly:
Rust showing on the rocker panels (pics).
Rust rot-through near the front right shock tower (pic).
Someone smashed out the right rear window (pic).
Humming noise when turning right of center, wheel bearing?
