1988 BMW 3-Series Additional Info:

Thank you for looking at my listing. I've owned this car for 20 years and it was my first car. After driving it during my high school and college years in Southern Nevada, it spent 8 years parked under a cover until I moved to a house with a garage large enough to undertake this project. I now live in the Bay Area and do not have the space or time to continue working on it. Please email with further questions or if you would like a showing. Most of the work described below was done in 2019 and 2020, and most of the parts have 10,000 miles on them. Almost all of the parts are OE, OEM, or genuine BMW unless they were not available.
Suspension and steering-
New rear springs and pads.
New Bilstein B6 shocks.
New rear trailing arm bushings.
New front and rear sway bar bushings and end links.
New subframe bushings.
Control arms were replaced during my ownership and have approximately 30,000 miles on them. Ball joints are good.
New inner and outer tie rods.
New steering column guibo.
New control arm bushings (E36 325i. original bushings too soft)NOS right front steering knuckle.
Drivetrain-
Rebuilt transfer case. Replaced a needle bearing and a ball bearing. I believe the VC isn't original. Resealed. Passes jack test.
Transmission- Resealed and filled with Redline MT-90. Rebuilt shifter linkage with new bushings, joints.
Front differential resealed.
Rear differential rebuilt by a BMW shop (new bearings, seals, paint).
Rebuilt rear driveshaft.
All four axles sent out to Axles Unlimited (North Carolina) for overhaul.
Both rear wheel bearings are new (replaced front two when I replaced the front control arms ~30,000 mi).
Replaced front driveshaft with a gently used unit. Splines are perfect. Installed with correct grease.
All new guibos and hardware.
New Sachs clutch, throwout bearing, master and slave cylinder.
Brakes-
Installed rebuilt brake calipers. Replaced Girling front calipers with ATE calipers.
New ATE brake rotors and pads.
New rear parking brake shoes, spring kit, and cables.
Filled with good ATE DOT 4 brake fluid.
Engine-
Has low oil pressure at idle and warmed up. After rebuilding the engine, it experienced an overspeed event and bent some valves and broke a few rocker arms. I replaced the head and drove it for 8,000 miles but now has an oil pressure issue. I think this would be a good candidate for a stroker project or a swap which some people have recently started to do on the AWD cars.
Rebuilt cylinder head purchased from a machine shop on eBay (after damage described above). Fully overhauled (new valve seals, guides, valve job, etc.)
Refurbished VFM
New Alternator
New Starter
New Belts
New timing belt and tensioner.
New Water pump with metal impeller.
New Battery.New Fuel Pump
New fan with thermostatic clutch.Rebuilt power steering pump
Rebuilt fuel injectors.
New fuel pump, pressure regulator, filter.
New spark plugs, wires, distributor, rotor.
SSSquid chip. (91 octane)
Interior-
Front seats recovered- Heating elements installed with new covers.
Replaced instrument cluster with a rebuilt unit.
Redyed steering wheel
New shift boot.
New under dash trim panel.
New drivers' seat belt receptacle.
BMW Individual shift knob ($$$).
Replaced OBC backlight with LED.
Alpine Radio
Oddities, Problems, and things needed. (Other than a new engine)
I have all of the parts to get the A/C converted, but haven't done it yet. Rebuilt A/C compressor, pressure switches, evaporator, seals. Will come with car. I also have a new Nissens radiator that I have not installed, included.
Cruise control is intermittent.
Intermittent ABS warning light. I replaced both front abs sensors but this did not solve the problem.Brake pad warning light is on. It is missing a wire.
Needs paint. The car was last painted in 2008 and it's now fading and peeling on the roof, hood, and trunk.
Small amount of rust in the bottom of the passenger door.
Small amount of rust on the bottom side of the floor plugs.
The exhaust is a modified 325i exhaust with original cat, which I lengthened to fit the car.
I also have a good steering rack with no leaks included with the sale. The one on the car is original and I had to put stop leak in it to keep it from dripping on the driveway.
Accident History- The front right fender has a DOT-R sticker on it. It was replaced before my ownership. The car was rear-ended in traffic by another car that was itself rear-ended. The right-rear tail light was replaced with some minor bodywork in that corner.
It's a fun car and gets a lot of attention nowadays since the E30s have become so popular. I haven't seen another iX on the road in a long time.
Comes with a stack of receipts, parts mentioned above, and a CA smog certificate (if sold to a CA buyer). Mileage is approximate- the odometer gears stripped (common e30 issue) before I replaced the cluster. Old cluster included with the car.
