I am selling my 1988 BMW 325iX all-wheel-drive E30 coupe. This model is even rarer than the M3, as only 310 cars were produced for the US that year (and 2647 overall from 1988 to 1991). It has a clean title in my name and a MA state inspection sticker from September 2023.
This was BMW’s first all-wheel drive car and handles extremely well in snow and rain as well as dry road. The AWD is functioning properly as shown in the jack test (see video), which on average increases its value by $5000.
Original to the car include the body paint (Alpine White II) with red and blue trim lines, black leather sport seats, built-in tool box in the trunk, and 15” basketweave wheels. The spare tire, which sits in a corrosion-free well, also appears to be original and is marked “made in West Germany”. The front BMW emblem is missing, but you can buy a new OEM replacement emblem online for $50.
The original five-speed manual transmission controls the original 2.5-liter inline-six engine whose odometer is stuck at 243,772 miles. The stick is a ZHP short shifter, and the original shifter is included as well.
The sunroof works smoothly (see video) and does not leak. All power doors and windows work well. Heat and blower work but A/C is not cold. ABS sensor is not working.
Michelin Ice-X winter tires are mounted on the original rims, and I will include a set of Continental ExtremeSport I summer tires on Vors SP1 rims (bought new in 2022). Both sets of tires have less than 1000 miles on them.
There are rust spots on the body that can be touched up, and there is surprisingly very little underbody corrosion. The carpeting is in very good condition. The driver seat is worn and torn in spots. The dashboard is cracked which is typical of most E30s.
Additional accessories include a Continental bluetooth stereo head, BMW sunshade, and both vintage and modern scissor jacks.
Though the car drives well, handling could be improved by replacing the front springs, struts, tierods, and control arm bushings as they are worn.
Coolant, engine oil, and differential/transmission fluid leaks have been detected, and seals may need to be replaced to fix them. The leaks are minor and I haven’t had to top anything off.
