Reason for selling:I got the car with a trade thinking I would have time to fix it up but my other e24 is taking priority so need to get rid of this one.
What I know about the car:It was supposedly owned by 1 guy since new who worked night shifts and daily drove it to work for 30 years. He stopped driving/working because his age and let it sit. The previous owner (who I bought it from) buys and fixes up cars. He owned it for 5 years i believe and in the beginning got it running and driving down the street. I know he put on a new water pump and i’ve seen that someone had redone the fuel system. Looks like New in tank pump and in line pump. His son wanted to make the car his project so he took it and never worked on it. It sat until sold to me.

I cleaned out the gas tank and pumped the old gas out through the lines, threw in a battery and tried to start it. it cranks very well and fuel system works great, was pumping clean gas to the rail. It was getting spark but there a tiny problem I haven’t had time to figure out. Car started for a few seconds on starter fluid but then died. It really wants to run but haven’t had time to mess with it. The brakes worked, a little too well, the front locked up while unloaded. I think they need the booster to get vacuum to it so it can take some of the pressure off the pedal. The clutch pedal feels good and it went into all the gears.
*I have not driven this car just messed with it some in my driveway*
It needs a little bit of everything. paint is faded and almost all clear coat gone. Has some surface rust in spots on the body but nothing major. The drivers side C pilar is the worst spot (pictured). It needs a paint job so there’s nothing that can’t be fixed on the outside with a little body work before paint. Surprisingly the body is very straight and no major singable or dents anywhere. I haven’t crawled underneath too much but previous owner said the passenger side floor board had a hole and should be replaced but drivers side was okay. Trunk looked okay. Not anything structural I saw but it’s an old car some rust is to be expected.
When i connected the battery the guages came to life, the on board computer, and even the windows worked. Radio came on but didn’t play, most of the lights worked and seemed like all the wiring was operational. Battery is not included in sale.Interior isn’t in the best shape. Dash is cracked, seats are cracked. Look at pictures.
Conclusion:I think this would make a killer race car, that early engine and trans are worth atleast $1000-1500.Swap in a V8, strip the interior and a quick coat of paint. You have a race car no one else has.Or the other way. Everything is there and repairable. You could restore it and have a rare early 6 series. I’ve never seen one this old before.
