I bought this car in September of 2016 and have been making improvements to it ever since. A couple major investments were the full Diamondschwartz respray (and minor body repairs like dent removal and such) and a significant mechanical overhaul. It has come a long way since, and is one of my favorite cars I’ve owned.
BMW never brought the E30 touring to the USA, so they are incredibly hard to find. This car is originally from Italy and has the rare M20B20 (2.0L 6-cylinder). Back in the day in Italy, one could save money on taxes by opting for the 2.0 instead of the 2.5 liter.
The previous owner (American) bought it when he was on deployment in Turkey. When he moved back to Texas, he shipped the car there. He then federalized the car and registered it in Texas. The car is currently registered in California as a Historical Vehicle.
I’ve had this car for about 22 months and have put less than 500 miles on it. It is my “Cars and Coffee” car and has spent most of its life in my ownership in a garage under a car cover on a battery tender. I’ve recently moved to Florida and can’t even enjoy it on the 1 time a month I would usually take it out. Even when I lived in California, I would take it out maybe one day a month.
This car turns heads and gets compliments everywhere. Even non “car people” do double takes and ask “did BMW even make these”? It is as pure as a driver’s car as you can get, with all the practicality of a station wagon. Think of it like a more practical Miata.
Recent mechanical work:

Muffler repair: Parts replaced (muffler strap kit, exhaust hanger)
Transmission repair: Parts replaced - Brand new clutch kit, crankshaft rear seal, slave cylinder, motor mounts
Cooling system: Parts replaced – Water pump, radiator, all radiator hoses, all radiator brackets and holders, V belt, gaskets
