Beautifully presented with meticulous 5 year long restoration! Unbelievable expense went into this BMW to bring it to exceptional standards throughout! Fully rebuilt drivetrain, upgraded 5-speed manual transmission, power disc brakes, 13″ alloy wheels, Recaro sport seats, and more! Truly unbelievable, and very hard to find this road ready, let alone show stopping!
It is safe to say that Bavarian Motor Werks was struggling in a vast automotive marketplace offering only large luxury vehicles and motorcycles. They would need to adapt with a mid-range vehicle to better position themselves, and ultimately stay alive as a corporation. This led to the introduction of the compact 02 Series which led to remarkable worldwide success! Most popular would be the later generation 1972-1974 2002tii with Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, Macpherson struts, larger calipers with ventilated disc brakes, thicker front spindles, and high-flow performance exhaust manifolds as enhanced equipment. With the 2002 platform providing 4-wheel independent suspensions, massive visibility from the driver position, low center of gravity, short wheelbase, and superb engine performance offering 125 horsepower, they captured the hearts of driver enthusiasts immediately! They literally saved BMW, making it the successful auto maker we all still know today. Unfortunately, finding a quality 2002 today is very challenging, due to potential rust and extreme driving tendencies by previous owners. This no-expense spared, fully restored example you are about to see is about as perfect as you could ever expect!
We are delighted to offer this stunning 1974 BMW 2002tii Coupe that has been through a very thorough 5-year long, nut-and-bolt restoration that began with a very solid, California-sourced example from Rob Torres of 2002 Haus. His careful attention to detail, and remarkable expertise in the 2002 industry, made for perfect recipe to bring this example to a pinnacle level! Finished in Colorado Orange with custom Tan leather upholstery with superb Oatmeal textured carpeting! Options include professionally rebuilt 1990cc Inline 4- MFI engine mated to upgraded 5-speed overdrive manual transmission, 3.64:1 rear differential, Recaro Sport seats, manual sunroof, upgraded Retro Sound Motor 4 audio system in stock location, coco floor mats, Nardi wood steering wheel, 13” alloy wheels, passenger vanity mirror, and dual outside mirrors!
Beginning in late 2012, the restoration at 2002 Haus would begin. It would be stripped of all mechanical components in preparation for body work and repaint. Over 200 photographs are provided to document it from start to finish. It is hard to express the amount of time and energy that went into this outstanding example! To be as gorgeous as possible, nearly 384 hours of meticulous body sculpting resulted in a show-stopping $35,000 paint job, along with a professionally refinished interior from the OEM headliner to the soft leather seating surfaces inside. All new suspension components with Bilstein shocks, all new braking system, coolant system, complete exhaust system, upgraded Pertronix ignition, 13” alloy wheels with correct BMW spare in the trunk, new radial tires(5), wiring, all correct BMW embossed window glass, weather stripping, interior sound deadening material for added comfort, and so much more round out this BMW! Make no mistake about bringing a vehicle to this level of restored detail and mechanical perfection! All told, the restorer claims nearly $140,000 was spent to ensure this car was more than just a faithful daily driver, but a certain show winner at BMW events and enthusiast rallies!
Included with this exceptional 2002tii will be all original books & manuals, several sets of correct BMW keys, service receipts, email communication from Mr. Torres, paint & body work records, and over 200 pictures of the entire restoration. Also provided will be over $500 in extra touring spares (drive belt, spark plugs, coil, oil filters, etc.), along with several original components retained after the car was fitted with correct OEM replacements. This included original rear bumper, original radio, factory rear taillight housing, factory wiper blades, and other small items packaged for delivery inside the trunk. If you are looking for one of the best 2002tii’s on the market, look no further. Finished in March 2018 with approximately 100 test miles on the engine, it is virtually brand new in all respects. The restoring party has simply other personal ventures in mind, and would like to see this passionately restored BMW go on to an appreciative home. They just don’t come to market very often any better that this, so act quickly!
