This is my one and only price drop. If it doesn't sell I'll just keep driving it. It's a blast!
I'm listing this classic BMW I acquired and have been driving for the last couple months. What an exceptional example of a well loved vehicle. It's obvious that it's been garaged most of its life due to the fact the dash isn't cracked. In fact the interior is a 8.5 out of 10 due to a small area of deteriorated headliner and a small stain on one of the rear seats. The Waterbuffalo hide seats are immaculate with hardly a crease in them. All of the mahogany pieces still shiny and in perfect shape. Carpeting like new as well. Very well preserved interior. Nearly all instrumentation is in German.
The exterior paint work in similar condition with some scratches and a couple dings and one faded area where a possible repair was made.
There is rust, behind the passenger front fender, and below the battery. And in the lower part of the front left fender. Not terminal, not structural, but would need to addressed. I suspect some of the rust came from the rats nests that was under the hood. The car sat for a dozen years I suspect before I acquired it. The PO was the 3rd owner, second after importing.
The car retains the original euro trim including staggered headlights with washers and wipers (non functioning) and the slimline euro bumpers in near perfect condition.
Mechanically the car is well sorted. Transmission shifts smoothly and the turbocharged 3.2 liter M102 engine really pulls (once it's on boost) these cars weren't designed for off the line quick starts but boy once on the highway it's smooth as silk and pulls like mad from 70-100mph.
There are some faults obviously for a 36 year old car but mechanically I have not found any reason that this car couldn't be a daily driver.
I've got nearly $8000 In receipts from PO and what I've put into it. A brief list as follows
Ac charged with R12 works great.
New brakes all the way around
Turbo removed and serviced.
New exhaust system front to back
New sport springs and Bilstein sport shocks for front and rear. Rear shocks are Boge, NOS.
with sport springs.
New water pump and hoses and coolant flush with BMW blue coolant.
Trans oil change and new filter
Cv joint boots (not installed yet)
All new plug wires and rotor and cap.
New auxiliary fan.
What the car needs
A manual transmission. This was my original plan and I've even got the pedals for it to do the swap. The auto trans is bombproof with renewed filter and fluid.
Abs sensors bad.
Sounds like the carrier bearing needs replaced.
Windshield/headlight washers not working. Pumps work but not spraying. Probably hoses.
Vacuum pump inoperative. This means when the ac on and you stomp it the flaps in the dash change until the vac comes back up. I put a cheap Chinese vac pump on it but it doesn't help.
Odometer stopped at 68000. The car hasn't been driven much because it sat so I would go on a limb and guarantee that it's got less than 100k on it. Judging from the state of the suspension and engine. It was owned by a doctor and then the POs grandmother. It was babied.
I'm confident that I've described the vehicle accurately. This thing doesn't drip a drop of oil or fluids. Please message me for any more info.
Before people start asking about the wheels. The car came with TRX wheels and tires in mint condition. No need to replace for a while. I've got the penta Lugcentric 17"s that came on another car if you like them. Some of the pics have the 17s. If not it will wear the like new TRXs. I would be willing to throw in the 17s as well with the sale, also an engine gasket set.
