This is a rebuild from the ground up car. In 1987 I bought a used 1972 BMW tii (blue covering green). In 1995 the body was completely rotten but the guts were good. In 1999 I contracted with Jay Putnam of Performance automotive in Northampton MA to rebuild the car. We bought a 1972 BMW 2002 with a good body (Orange) and married the bottom of the orange car to the top of the blue/ green car. The engine was completely overhauled to racing specs - 12:1 compression - it is powerful and fast. The project then stalled and sat on blocks in my barn. In 2014 the project began again with Alan from Williamsburg putting all the pieces slowly back together. There are 1100 miles on the rebuild. We decided to see if it would go back together rather than making it beautiful The car was registered, insured and driven on a regular basis. We chose not to put the mechanical turbos back onto the engine becasue it needs dual Webers to maximize the power (one is presently installed). The seats are slightly torn, the dashes are in good condition. The air conditioner is removed, as is the radio. The headliner is not present. It needs door seals, but does not leak. There is a rust hole in the trunk. There are minor rust spots in a few other areas. The undercarriage is solid. The rocker panels are solid. I made a promise to the car that it would not end up in the land fill. It can go around the race track tomorrow. Drive it down the road and heads turn even though the paint is not perfect. This is a perfect car for someone who wants a fast sexy car and is willing to put some paint and beauty money into a classic. More pictures are available by request.
