1964 Austin Healey BJ8 Rare Phase 1 VIntage Air
I am pleased to offer this 1964 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Phase 1. This car is a rather unique example of the breed. Only about 1300 Phase 1 examples were produced between late 1963 and May 1964 out of a total BJ8 production of 17,712 units, making this example rather rare and desirable, especially for those who dislike the ‘jacked up’ rear end of Phase 2 and Phase 3 iterations. VIN # is HBJ8L25448 and mileage shows 42,658 +/- but TMU. Owned, loved and fully restored over a twenty year period, the Healey was completely disassembled, inspected and renewed/improved wherever required, absorbing large amounts of money and producing about 50 pounds of receipts, videos, spare parts and detailed documentation of the restoration. Mods and improvements include: – A Toyota 5 speed transmission and ‘Smitty’ clutch conversion kit were installed, producing far superior driving and shifting than the original Moss box – 4 Bilstein shocks replaced the standard factory lever units – Full Connolly leather interior was tailor made in beautiful tan color – The engine was fully rebuilt to semi-race specs (with a custom intake for the SU carbs coupled with a removable hood panel for proper adjustment of the carburetors) – An alternator was fitted Most uniquely, a Vintage Air A/C system was professionally installed with a custom burl wood panel to match the original dash, making this Healey arguably a 1 of 1. During the rotisserie restoration, all underbody parts (frame and sheet metal) were sandblasted and then coated with industrial grade anti corrosion material, followed by a superb two stage paint job in Signal Red. All chrome and stainless were replaced as needed, including front and rear bumpers/overriders. All rubber and composition body trim seals were replaced. A permanent clear bra was installed over the front of the hood to avoid paint damage while driving. Minotaur knock off racing wheels replaced the standard wire wheels, to accept the added torque of the semi race motor, and a free flow exhaust system was added to let that engine breathe and sound awesome. As a final touch of luxury, a very high end sound system with a DVD/CD player was installed in the trunk, with 4 Polk speakers in the cabin area. The car is in immaculate condition in and out. The top, largely unused seems almost new, goes up and down properly (manually) and seals correctly. Tires are Vredstein 165HR-15 86H Sprint Classic in excellent condition with no visible wear. Recent oil and filter change with full body and chassis lube. A very unique Austin Healey indeed. Just the right upgrades to make the driving experience even more enjoyable than stock. Video Links:
